Hollowing out cat convertors

I have all stock exhaust and wanted to put aftermarket on it, but right now I am not in the position to drop that kind of money.

Which set of cats can you cut off and hollow out and re-weld back on and not affect the emissions of the car?

Also, will this help to reduce some of the heat that is generated?

hey noob, what year? mine is an 05.
i did mopar exhuast and hollowed out the secondary cats only? that does not effect any codes due to the fact it is after the 02 sensors...i also put header wrap on the muffs when i had it apart. you can also take out the crossover as i did to reduce weight and heat..
