05 Modded versus 08 Stock

Okay - I am fairly new to the Viper community. I have had my car about 3-4 months now. I bought a beautiful 05 vert with 1800 miles on it. Car was a mint one owner car. It had a polished Paxton kit with Corsa track exhaust on it all originally installed for the owner by DC Performance.

After I got it, I then had American racing stepped headers installed with high flow cats and a DLM tensioner for my belt.

I just put new Iforged wheels 19/20 with PS2's.

Car is a blast and I am having a lot of fun so far modding it but I remain curious about the speed of a stock 08 compared to my car which is highly modded.

My car dyno's at 668rwhp and 620rwtq according to DC Performance dyno tune.

I know a stock 08 is around 520+ or -.

With that said, the differences in the motor and suspension between old versus new are also worth something....right!

On the new 08 there isn't any ramp up time with a supercharger like the Paxton. Even though my car pulls like a raped ape, I am curious how would they fare against each other on the drag strip.

Has anybody run a car like mine against an 08?

I don't know of anybody near me that has an 08 to test it out but my call is my car with the bigger numbers wins. 0-60 is something I am really curious about as well as drag strip numbers.

Any info would be helpful!

I'm quite sure your car is faster in a straight line. I'm about 8 miles from you, if you want to find out on a friendly basis. On a road course I'd bet on the '08.

Your car would molest the 08 pretty badly but that should be expected. Blown VS stock NA is really no contest.

Suspension and new motor won't matter, you have 668 rwhp vs around 530 rwhp, = you owning an 08' in straight line.

You know I had a similar thought after I got my 06 Coupe and then found out all the cool stuff on the 08...I debated about getting an 08 or modding my 06.

Modding the 06 won out...simply because there were a certain number of mods I was going to do no matter which one I had. With that in mind the 08 would have been more costly and after the mods advantages of the 08 became less and less.

Besides for the extra coin it just wasn't visually different enough for me to feel like I just spent more money on a new car. When I sit in it in the garage it would just feel like I spent more money for what looks and feels just like my last car...and that would be silly

And as the others have said...your car would destroy a stock 08 in a race!

I remember Hennessey talking about running their lightly modded 08 against a full on paxton car and John said he put about 2 or 3 car lengths on it. Not bad at all considering the 08 only had basic stuff done to it. Now an 08 with your current mods would be quite a set up.

I talked to John about it at the shop a little while ago because I was wondering the same thing when I do get another Viper.

Basically, he was telling me it was a completely different car with a HUGE improvement in the drivetrain. The tranny and rearend were talked about most.

However, I can find 2006 Coupes in the middle to upper 50's. That is a lot of mods to catchup with the price difference. Maybe when I get around to buying another one, the 08s will be cheaper.

So as of today, the 2006 wins....but I'm not buying yet.

I agree with your logic. It has been stated many times that for what ever the reason a paxton 700 rwhp car traps and pulls like a N/A 600 rwhp car.

Well.....I believe I still don't have any real good juicy stats on a car like mine. What does a car like mine do in the 1/4 mile in terms of time and trap speed?

What about 0-60mph?

If the stock 08 does 1/4 mile in high 11's and 0-60mph in 3.6, i can't imagine my paxton/header/tune car doing it much faster. With the Paxton the boost doesn't come on until high rpms anyway so how much better can the 0-60 times be than 3.6 seconds?

I know there are a lot of guys who have the same mods (More or less) that I have and could chime in.

SUNDIEGO where do you live?

Did you mean disagree? lol

08's are dynoing round 530 stock, some more some less. The 08's with bolt on's have hung and beat some of the Paxton cars, but still, stock 08' vs 668rwhp 05' is a big difference. 08' does drive much improved from before, but thats still a big power difference. I agree with your 600 rwhp statement though, the 08's with bolt on's run like raped apes. I think this new motor will be an absolute monster for a n/a build.
