Fastest vert speed with top down on the street?

Was in Mexico again with the DLM SRT and went up against a newer Z28 with some mods on her. not sure what mods, but heard the exhaust and anyhow my SRT Vert is a sleeper looking stock and sounds stock at cruise. Anyhow, cold and the top was down and by myself. He passes slowly and I am thinking he is a poser. Then of course he gets on the gas and goes. I let him go, roll up to him slowly and we go-with my top down. Being in Mexico, it was a cold day surprisingly and my DLM car gooooooooooooooes even better on those days. I hit 175 and he is smoked. Did it 3 times and he eats crow each time, but his car pulled nice but honestly my DLM car just goes (950 RWHP) and screams.

This begs the question as I really wanted to hit 200 with the top down. What is the record on here top down? The wind I could definitely feel, but the car was solid and I have to say I was keyed up, but my GOD my car was near idle and feels like it will lay down 230 as the acceleration was still insane. I know my car (in Mexico again) hit over 200 with the top up already, but just over 200 but anyhow interested in hearing the vert guys even in a GEN I to IV what they hit.

LOVE my Vipers man-esp my GEN III vert. I've had over 100 cars in my 45 years, but that car is the snizzle hands down.

345's Spinnin' has run the mile a bunch in his vert and his finish line photo looked a little scary. If that top were to come off at that speed it could get ugly quick.

One of my customers with a 700 Hp NA car, did a lot of "mexico" runs as well, 200mph regularly. He said it was scary as hell, car all over the place, he added one of my ACR front splitters and he said the car is stable 210 feels like 70.

How does the front splitter only make the car stable? What about the rear?

I know of an RT doing north of 210 with no top. Was reportedly quite stable.

Maybe the problem was air getting under the front, making it floaty?

But doesn't all that downforce in the front cause the back end to lift, which is by far more dangerous??

It could...depends how floaty the front was in the first place.

Front splitters do not create down force, the prevent lift in the case of the viper. Instead of allowing some of the air that hits the stagnation point in the frontal area of the car (think of all the air that is in front of your car as it moves down the road, it has to go somewhere. some goes over, some goes under, some goes through the rad and some goes to the sides.)

Well that air that "decides" to go under now takes more air and places it under your car, the air hits the under front of your car first and makes the front feel lighter and floatier.

Add a splitter and now only 3 or 4 inches of air can go under your car, the splitter is obstructing the upper air for getting under your car, so the air that would have gone under now has to go over.

Now the front does not feel lighter or loose,

Now the air going under the car, because it has a shorter distance to travel is going faster than the air going over the car, the air creates a Bournoulli effect and basically sucks the entire bottom of the car down to the ground and makes the whole car feel more stable. This is especially true with converts because they do not have a rounded top like a coupe would (all coupe, due to their shape create lift, they are shaped like the top of an airplane wing), so converts with the top down have less lift and so the front splitter can stabilize a convert in its entirety better than it would a coupe.

spoilers "spoil" the lift and also help to keep the back of the car on the ground, not from down force but by spoiling the lift.

Spoiling lift allows cars to go faster

The top is DOWN is what we are talking about. Mine has been 200+ with the top up, 175 with the top down. Hell even my GTS windows start to come in at 175+ and you see and feel the air coming into the car as the speed increases

From being a GEN II, III and IV owner, I my fat ass thinks the GEN I/II would be a lot scarier to me. The III/IV seems more planted at speeds. The top down is insane ball challenging at speeds-it is sure fun, but you "feel" the wind and hear it more, so it is just more to absorb in all out balls testing. Kind of like you realize deep down you are fucked if anything happens, the last thing you might see is a tree at 2 feet away before it goes dark but in a coupe, you "feel" safer. At least that is how my dumb ass feels doing those speeds-in Mexico of course.
