Question BOOSTED - "Idle Air Control" line question...

Ubder a boosted application, should the IAC be connected to the boosted side or normal side? I would assume the normal side but my kit has a port on the boosted side with a hose that seems to be perfect for the IAC.

Pics below show a filter on the IAC, and 2 lines... one from the air filter and one from the boosted side. What should I use?

With the port already there on your intake I would use it , but I dont think you have to.
It would keep equal pressure on both sides of your iac ,which is probably a good thing.

I've seen it done both ways but I'd let the IAC draw its air from the engine bay not the charge pipe just b/c it looks better IMO. As to whether or not it actually makes a difference, I dunno.

It may look better but over the course of driving it you will bend the flapper sooner or later and the IAC will fail. Connect it to the charge pipe.

Correct... I've also seen them fail in boosted applications.

Connect it so both sides see pressure.

Even in low boost applications?

I did it on the boost side. I tried it with the filter on there-- was too loud. sounded like a serious vac leak that annoyed me. super quiet now.

Thanks for all the feedback. It seems I'm getting alot of mixed ideas here. I guess I'll try to experiment with it over time. I may plug all the holes and run the little filter for now. Then try something different down the road, like the boosted line next. Any other feedback is welcome! Thanks guys!

Small filter equals lots of noise like DRLEE says

Also relies on temp sensor that is in a different location for IAT's

if you run on boosted side then depending on what is making your boost, your vacuum will be higher than it would be otherwise

Paxton install is with coming off boosted side, Some tuner do it with the filter other do not

Tried putting my IAC to atmosphere, but it made a loud whistle at idle and caused idle problems. I hooked it to my charge pipe, no more noise and better idle.

Try for yourself, but I wager you will be hooking it up as the kit was intended.

I've plumbed to atmosphere with no issues. But then again I'm not running high boost. It is noisy. Maybe I'll switch it up in the future.

Thanks guys. This is a custom setup so I didn't know how the original kit "intended" it to be hooked up. This brings some light on things.

Here is an old video when I had my wee turbos installed and IAC vented to atmosphere. The whistle is pretty loud.

We tried it both ways, that port was actually added dead ass last on the build. It ended up being better with the hose connecting it to the charge pipe. As others have mentioned, it smoothed out the idle and got rid of a hissing noise.

I could tell it was added on last, because of the lack of chrome, so that makes sense. I'll use that port and hose then. Thanks my friend!!!

Clean your IAC while you are at it with sensor safe throttle body spray. I replaced mine with a new one and it idles much better.

Boosted side, always.

That valve would basically amount to a big boost leak if venting to atmosphere. When open throttle, that valve is irrelevant anyway. When closed throttle, you don't have boost to speak of anyway in most cases.
