car stuttering at high rpms

Today i brought my car (96 rt-10, headers, exhaust, smooth tubes, KN filters, supertuned by dan cragin from a long time ago. I installed 150hp NX kit, i brought my car to dyno and sure a/f is good. i did do a couple 1 gear pulls and car ran great with and without nirtous. so i get car on dyno and first pull without nitrous the car misfired or stutter a bit like it was getting to much fuel etc above 3500 rpm for like a second.

We did another pull and all good. we did first pull on nitrous and a/f was lean with 12.6. i put 200hp shot fuel pill in and it of course ran very rich below 10.5. i will be getting a smaller fuel jet but its all i had for now.

so i drive home and every now and then my car stutters or misfires at higher rpms without nitrous. does anyone have an ideal of what could be wrong.

Thanks,
Scott V.S.

I guess stuttering is better than lisping.

There's only one solution... Just drive around with nitrous enabled.

My first thing to check would be spark plugs, most of the time they are the culprits.

I did just replace the plugs with a step colder ones from bosch that ROE racing recommended. What should i look for to see if plugs are bad, and what would make them get bad so soon. I replaced them less than a week ago.

thanks,

Are you using the Bosch Platinum +2 plugs? If so I was told by many sources not to use them. I bought a set from Roe and never ended up using them.

Unless you know what your looking for its impossible to describe what you are looking for. Get another set of new plugs, make sure to gap them to what NX recommends.

The other thing you can do is pull them out take pictures and post them here, make sure they are good detail pictures or we wont be able to analyze them.

i was using bosch fr8dc part #7927 gapped at .35. i was told to use these by Sean ROE. I think these may not be cold enough plugs for my car and im trying to find what plug to use, i was thinking NGK FR6 but i cant find those so im wondering if they dont make them anymore, or plug ngk bkr8eix.

ZFR6F = 1 step colder
ZFR7F = 2 steps colder(What I'm currently using).

If the car is stuttering at high RPM's it may have a speed impediment.

Sorry, couldn't resist! How old/what brand are the plug wires?

I have brand new magnacor plug wires. I have no ideal what was used to tune my car, it was done before i owned the car and it was when dan craigan was still at claude short dodge cause that is what the plaque says. I put new plugs "NGK bkr6eix" in yesterday and so far no stutter. once my new fuel jets come in for the nitrous i will put it back on the dyno and let everyone know how it goes.

Thanks for all the help

I have to ask how high an RPM did you run the motor up to? I never saw this posted and wonder if you did not bend a push rod or similar of course AFTER you check your plugs and obvious things like getitng out a vac gauge and looking at it. That said, I was at WOT at 5K in my Jeep's HEMI motor on Friday and BLEW the side out of the block in a nice little explosion :-) High RPM can be fun, but cause a few little issues at times. BTW, I hope you are driving around with a WB so you can see WTF is happening with your AF.

If it isn't a fresh tune, I'd strongly recommend sending it back to DC Performance for a reflash.

My '96 GTS, along with a few other very early VIN cars, had problems at the track with unexplained power loss at high load conditions. It was literally like the ignition switch was turned off for a split second, then turned back on. It was rectified with an updated data flash at the dealership.

Thanks guys, i do not have a WB for A/F. what should the stock A/F be at. I also wonder if when i took the shroeder valve out to hook up fuel line if any dirt got into the injectors or fuel system.

Also i will be getting a tune this winter when i buy a programmer.

GTS Dean, that is what it was like at the dyno my car hit like 4500 rpm and for a split second it was like the car had no spark. That was the first time the car ever did that.

Here are my current dyno numbers, but i will be going again with my new plugs and new nitrous fuel jets. the one pull is with no N20 and the other is with 150hp N20 with the 200 HP fuel jet which is very rich.
