That is the exact reason I started a CF manufactureing company, not that I'm some rich Viper owner...Just a regular Viper owner who was so :cursin: that I couldn't get the parts I wanted.
Got a question, why is an all carbon fiber molded center console cheaper than getting a non carbon fiber one wrapped in leather? I would think the leather would be cheaper because didn't you have to outsource a company to make a mold for the carbon fiber piece?
You need to use a special type of leather for car dashes. It is a little more expensive than regular , but not that much more. A good seamstress is not cheap. You are paying more for the labor than the cost of the leather. There is also the Viper Tax that comes with those leather dashes.
I hear about this happening quite often. Might be worth it to buy one of your carbon fiber consoles and tuck my factory console away for safe keeping before someone leans on it wrong and cracks it.
This is not a structural item at all. You can do a saturation lay-up and vacuum bag the thing and low temp. cure it, and it will still be stronger than the plastic unit.
You don't need an autoclave to manufacture carbon, unless you need structural strengths...
We put the test piece in my car tonight. Looks real nice against the cognac. Will look even better as a gell coated finished product. Fitment was very good, especially for a prototype. Bobby took some pics and I'll let him post them when he's ready. I'm gonna test this piece out for him for a week or so and provide him with som more feedback.
