The 1000 mile review of UnderGround Racing Twin Turbo
I cracked 1000 miles this morning coming into work. I've had to travel more than half the time I've had the car, so driving has been limited. However, as long as it isn't raining/snowing, I drive this car as much as possible. I've done everything from 150 mile trips to 5 mile trips to the store.
I have yet to have a single problem with the car. It idles perfect at stoplights and runs like a raped ape when you get into the throttle. Many people will say the car isn't the same without the 6 speed and they are right, it's 10x better. Don't get me wrong, I love rowing gears, it's in my blood. However, this car is so freaking easy and fun to drive I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm sure the stick cars are a blast with turbo's, but you'd be hard pressed to push me off this car. The car is so civil, I've decided to take it on the HotRod Power Tour. I'm going to do the whole tour with my dad. I think it starts in WI and ends in Bristol, TN. He'll be driving his 300-G and I'll drive the viper. Thank god he has a big trunk.
I will be making a few cosmetic changes to the car to get it ready for the tour, but mechanically this car is flawless. The sound is unreal, the power is unreal and the ride is unreal. For years I used to listen to my father on the phone, telling customers you either build a street car or a race car, you can't do both. Something that is very true in the NA world. We're also talking mid 90's here. There is no doubt this car is the absolute perfect balance. I've given at least 50 different people rides and all of them are amazed at the power. Most calling it a roller coaster ride.
Kevin told me when I picked up the car, "I hope you drive this thing". I laughed and explained I will put more miles on a TT car than any customer he has. We will see how long a build like this can last under normal conditions. I'll start hitting the track with it around end of March once my travel schedule slows down. Anybody wondering if they should buy an UGR TT car, DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT
Hope to see you on the tour Mike. I will probably pick it up in KY and ride to Bristol with the 08. Glad you're enjoying the car. They do some racing along the tour, right? Do you plan to take it down the track?
Yes I do! It will have to be on street tires. We don't have a chase vehicle for slicks
I have your slicks waiting in Bristol TN Seriously, anyone going on the tour or planning on being here for the finale, I live here and can help you around or tell ya where and where not to go. You all need to stay in touch the closer it gets and we'll have to meet up. Also, my shop is about 5 min. from the track so if you all need any service or get on a lift it should be handy. look forward to everyone coming to town
I haven't had any issues in the speed department. I can pull to 150 with ease. Kevin will have to answer to the gears. Honestly, I never asked .
Going to redo some interior stuff on the car. I want to change out the drivers seat with one made for a 5 point harness. The harness comes up through the front, which is too far away, needs to come up through the seat. Going to replace the carpet in the back, it is 10 years old. Going to tint the windows, although I love the fact people can see the cage. Going to touch up the console. I want to upgrade the sound system with a nice navigation system. Change the red viper under the hood. Probably going with a different shifter for cosmetic reasons. Just little stuff I want to change to make it look good for HotRod
awesome mike! hopefully we can meet you on the tour somewhere. i have to look at the schedule, last year it came to our town. be cool to drive with you to a few stops. it would be a great way to break in the engine my GTS-which i would love to have an auto in too!
keep driving it like you stole it!
