96 R/T a Gen 1?

Hello, new here.

I currently have a 95 RT/10. I have come across a 96 RT/10 at a good price. The seller says it’s a Gen 2. From what I can tell from searching is the 96 RT/10 is the same as my 95. Looking for clarification before I buy. If It’s the same, I’m going to pass and look for a 97 or newer.

IIRC, it's a gen 1&1/2. lol Gen 1 engine, gen 2 exhaust. Half breed.

Will look like rt/10 you have but have the G2 engine and the G2 rear exhaust. Here is the complete change from '95 to '96 rt/10:

Okay, I confused this verbage, earlier: YES G1 motor but has OBD2 as of 96 and was a reTUNED G1 motor for output.

Thanks for the info. I’m looking to build one with forced induction that I can occasionally take to the track. With the Gen 1 motor. I’m not sure that would be the best starting platform for that.

Mechanically the main differences between the pure Gen 1 and pure Gen 2 - the 96.5 RT has the old Engine with the new JTEC controller with rear exhaust and the chassis has the full Gen 2 suspension

I have my 96rt-10 twin turbo, it's a gen 1.5. From what I have learned it is a good motor to build. The oil pan has better baffling than gen 2, you get gen 2 suspension and a big thing is the computer electronics' over other gen 1 motor's as if you want to use an SCT or similar you can. The alternator can make a top mount supercharger more difficult because of alternator placement.

Basically the interior, exterior and motor itself are gen 1, most everything else is gen 2. 96 RT-10's are also very rare compared to other vipers as they only made them one year, but price doesn't reflect it's rarity as they seem to be less desirable than gen 2's.

Good info. I'll be checking a '96 RT here soon when my mechanic buddy is available. Gonna keep that info in mind.
