Any reason NOT to use OEM parts?

I'm running on the original wires and possibly the original spark plugs. With the advancement of technology, would I be better off going with non-oem parts? I like the look of an original engine but what gains would I get with going with newer wires and plugs. OEM seems pretty reasonable cost wise. Talk me out of going OEM. Thanks guys

Art turned me on to running the Gen III OEM plugs in my gen II and it ran/runs way better than before. To be fair, the old plugs WERE BAD so, no definitive contrast can be made but they work like a charm! Maybe he'll chime in with that wisdom.

OEM for me. I change my plugs and wires every 20,000 miles. If you wait until 30,000 miles the difference will be very noticeable when you do change them. I now have over 210,000 miles on my street Viper. Runs as good as the day I got it 20+ years ago.

SHit can the old stuff. As 8.0 said, The SRT Plug(RC12ECC) is a superior plug and I have a set of MSD wires for sale for $125, or an off brand set of wires for $70 shipped.
