Limp Mode / Bad Idle?
I've been having a minor problem with my '97 GTS for a bit, and I'd like to bounce it off of y'all. This is an on-and-off occurrence, so I am not entirely sure what to make of it.
Generally this happens when I am first starting out for the day, but I have had it happen after driving, stopping for an hour or so (hot day, car was still warm), and then continuing driving.
Anywho, I don't know what triggers this, but I will try to describe it as best I can now, and will try to get a video the next time I go for a drive.
Under normal conditions, my GTS is perfectly fine idling in first gear. Rolling at 3-4ish mph at 500 rpm or so.
When the issue comes up (could be while crawling, or while easing off the clutch to get into first) rpms drop to almost nothing and she feels like shes about to stall. Adding clutch brings rpms back up to normal idle. In this state, throttle response does not exist, and I can't get it out of that gutter.
(possibly related, in this condition she will idle at normal rpms in neutral/clutched in but has the tendency to 'hang' at 2500rpm sometimes)
It'll lug around like that for a while, and will only pop out of that state when I much more aggressively get into first (keeping rpms far higher than I should and slipping the clutch until the car catches up.
I don't know if gen II vipers had a limp mode, or if this is it, but I am very curious to hear y'all's thoughts.
Maybe I'm just a bad driver and shouldn't be subjecting her to such low revs, but her ability to handle the same situation later in a drive makes me think something is awry.
Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
