Alcantara and other sacrilege

Howdy all!

After months of searching and quite a few times insulting sellers with my lowball offers, I finally found myself a GTS! Picked it up in Texas and drove it the 8 hours to Louisiana. (I'm in for another long trip to Colorado once the DoD travel ban is lifted). Pictures attached because I'm sure you've never seen a red '97 before. I'm glad to finally be a real member of the community, and I'll do my best to share whatever helpful knowledge I pick up along my way.

Anywho, my question for y'all today is if anyone has pictures of a gen2 with an alcantara dash? Looks like there's at least two cars around, but all of the pictures I have seen are from users that haven't logged on since 2016, and they are all "in progress" pictures--nothing buttoned up. I haven't quite decided if I just want to drop a '98+ dash in or if I want to do something more drastic like alcantara, but I don't want to have to deal with the easy scratching of the early gen2 dashes (or the scratches already there from previous owners). I attached the best picture I could find, but it isn't the most telling.

I also might be interested in brushed aluminum for the radio/hvac control shroud, but I don't know how gaudy that might make things look.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Clint

Beautiful car, the best lines! (I still have my 96 blue White) Congrats! It is still my dream car.

You may want to think twice before changing it from stock now. It will cost money and lower the value.

What are the date codes on the tires?

Better yet, just change the tires. If no one told you they were recent they probably are not. Number one cause of early demise on these cars.

Rears are from late 2014, fronts are from mid 2015. The seller said that they've got 1000 or so miles on em--probably 2k now with my driving.

Miles don't matter after 6 years. Change them, not worth your health and safety.

Thanks for the kind words! I absolutely love her. I'll be slow to change much over the next couple months, but the only investment I'm worried about is in my own happiness. I'll keep all of the original parts, but I am not too worried about the next guy.

Really? That's good to know, thanks. I always thought tires were generally good up to around 10 years.

It will handle so much better and safer with new tires. Performance tires are done in 5-6 years.

Beautiful car. Best advice - leave it alone. Ignore all the mods going through your head and just properly maintain it and drive it.

JMO 200K+ miles 98.

Try a heat gun on the dashboard scratches.

X2 on the tire change…..made a world of difference on ride and handling.
Great looking car!

Congratulations on a nice looking GTS! We're happy to give you advice on any issues you have.

Congrats! Here, Here on the tires. Bought an 02 ACR with so few miles, the tires still had nipples and flashing from manufacturing. Would understeer at low speed cornering and fishtail when pressing the go pedal on the floor. After a fresh set of wheels and tires, much safer ride when it sticks, wheel wells are now filled and OEM issued parts are safely tucked away.
