Hood / Fascia / Lights adjustment

Ive searched. I do realize this has been covered quite a bit in the overall community. but any guide posted here is now missing the pictures it seems...

I installed an intercooler on the car and removed the front bumper and crash bar. After putting it all back together it's out of wack. Front right drivers side of the hood near the fascia is sticking up while the passenger side is slightly lower in relation to the fascia. Makes me think the plates the crash-bar mounts to are tweaked a little and need shifting.

I've tried some minor tweaks but i think ive just screwed up the alignment now a little on the hood latches and i dont really want to mess with it anymore until i have something to reference.

Anyone happen to have a complete guide with photos on how to get it more or less back into alignment? I do realize this is going to take a few hours of tweaking to get just right.

Referenced. Lunchbox's best bet is to find Dave and fly him out to his garage to perform the alignment. Good luck.

Dave read a couple of my lengthy posts at VCA and decided to tackle his car. He documented it well with Photobucket and became an internet sensation. Then one day, Photobucket fucked everybody and cut their links. Despite multiple opportunities to update the threads with direct photo embeds to this site and VOA, Dave refused to do so. I contributed to several of those threads with good info and direct embeds, but everybody still calls for Dave.

Do some more searching Jeff. Then call for help from someone not named Dave.

Similar problem here. My 95 suffers from what I have researched the fairly common problem on Gen 1/2 of hood to fascia fitment. The gap at the side of the fascia (just in front of the wheel well) ) to the hood on the passenger side is larger than driver's side. I have forum researched countless old threads discussing all kinds of remedies. Most are so old that all of the pics are gone/not available. One post suggested loosening the fasteners in fascia to the wheel well and jacking under the inner fender. I loosened the fasteners but there was zero movement and not real excited about the jacking part. I tried making adjustments using the 2 front hood latches and even the rear adjustable hood containment catches. But nothing really changed.

So does anyone have a remedy short of removing the front fascia and refitting ? Or if anyone knows of an experienced body person in metro Atlanta who could perform a proper fitment ?

Thanks.

Dean,
Thank you for the excellent pics. My specific issue is trying to reduce the wheel arc to hood corner height gap fit. Can it be accomplished through the fine adjustment brackets located in the front fender well ? Although it looks like the fine adjustment would only effect the front to rear and side to side fitment ?

Or would I still need to work with the core support which I am assuming requires the removal of the front fascia ?

You can try dropping the hood bumpers, then lowering the hood catches. Then you'll have to lower the bumper support to match, and raise the hood rattle bumpers.

Dean, thanks for the images. I've managed to get it sorted for the most part. Needs a bit more refinement and tweaking on my end but its getting there finally. Couple more garage sessions and a few beers and it should be good to go.

I know this is a month old but thanks for posting that Dean, there's some adjustment points in there that I didn't know about. Once it's not leaking fuel, discharging the battery and leaking oil, this will be at the top of my list....

Its a real bastard to do by yourself. It took me many garage sessions to get it right but it fits much better now. I dont have pictures of any before and after but it all seems to fit much better now after making the adjustments.

Just be aware that the front bumper push pins in the bumpber opening underneath help alot too for holding the bumper upward. You can also you can shim the front bumper up top where the radiator ducting is too depending on your hood situation and latches. Its very very time consuming. I have a feeling at some point ill tear it all apart and do it all again to get it perfect, but for now it works pretty well and doesn't look near as goofy as it did before.

It makes it a bit heavier to handle, but leaving the fascia pinned to the bumper support when you're nearing the last of your adjustments can help a lot. It adds some weight and the C.G. of the assembly becomes awkward, but you can slide the support adapters right onto the carriage bolts and spin the 15mm nuts on by hand pretty quickly. Then, make your final height/centering adjustments and snug them up.

I've been through it two or three times, it's better than it was but still needs work. Plus I have this heavy shiny aluminum thing behind the fascia that has to fit in there as well (I/C). I think with Dean's pictures and explanation the next time will be the last time.
