GTS of Hellcat?

Howdy all!

I'm sure that I picked a very unbiased source to get my information, but my time is drawing near to make my purchase. I've been lingering around on here for a couple years, and seriously considering getting a GTS of my own for about a year now.

Long story short, I'll have about $36000-40000 to work with in two months or so. Looking at vipers, I'm loving the final editions and the flat reds with cognac interiors. (pretty much looking at only 2001/2002 because brakes scare me)

Poking around recently, I saw that the '15/'16 Challenger Hellcats are in a similar price bracket to the '01/'02.

Can I get some opinions from y'all? Here is what I've come up with

Viper Pro:
SEXY
Simple/easy to work on
naturally aspirated
track oriented

Hellcat Pro:
more powerful
built in nav/driver assists
seats 4
drag oriented

Same Same
laughable mpg
200mph top speed
makes me smile

xxmetal,

Your Pro's for both are dead on. One item to add is that you do not see a GTS everyday. Challengers are everywhere (All the different versions)

The viper will be a more exclusive.

If you think driver nannies are a positive thing then don't buy a Viper.

Neither car can be used on the street anywhere near their potential without you risking jail time. So, what are you going to do with the car that would lead us into some kind of scientific choice? Which is better, a Jeep Rubicon, or a Dodge Viper? Similar answer. It depends on what you what the car to do for you

Owned both, Viper

Hellcat is useless and just another Challenger overall. It was fun for a year as a daily driver. Not much else. to heavy to track, no tire to drag, mileage on a long cruise pushed 24+ but so did the Viper. Not the Gen 2 GTS though

Both the cars in the picture are sold.

I took my 02 GTS from Ft. Worth to about 100 miles east of St Louis 3 times ( about 800 miles each way ) and averaged 23+ MPG each time. 80 + MPH on interstate 44. ( speed limit was 75 )

I currently own a 2016 Hellcat and a gen 3 Viper. If I had to choose one I'd go with the Hellcat. I like my Viper because it is less common, but that only goes so far.
I'm tired of the Viper tax - everything, and I mean EVERYTHING for the Viper is waaaaay over priced (check out the cost for shocks as an example.) It seems like every time I browse a Viper forum I find more issues I have to watch out for - (ps hoses, crank bolt, oil lines, window regulators, etc. etc.) Also the Viper is extremely uncomfortable - hot as heck in the interior, poor visibility through the windshield (I'm 6'2" and seat-height puts the windshield frame right in my viewpoint) crappy stereo, hard to get in/out of, no cruise, no trunk unlock (without fob) horrible ride quality on run flats and the list goes on and on.
Also the build quality of my Hellcat is far superior to my Viper. The Hellcat is much quicker (straight line) and with all the modern comforts the ride is much, much more enjoyable for me even the Hellcat's exhaust note brings a smile to my face. Plus, I was able to buy the 8 year max-care warranty which was extremely reasonable for a 700+ horsepower car. Agsin, I like my Viper but I like it more sitting in my garage - while I like to actually drive the Hellcat.

Driving in the escarado yesterday, saw a all black hellcat redeye, said "look babe thats one of those 700+ hp redeyes" her response "you mean that camero?"

If i am going to get something that just has a ton of power id opt for the track hawk, 10x more comfort

pre-abs brakes aren't that scary. Just don't drive around on 10+ year old tires.

I agree with you on the stupid expensive parts, but when you complain about the comfort???? My 02 GTS was one of the most comfortable cars I've ever owned. I've had 5 Cadillacs and 2 Lincolns, among others, and the GTS was right up there in my opinion. I drove it over 1600 miles round trip 3 times only stopping for gas and arrived rested. I'm 6'2" and 220 lbs and had no problem at all with front visibility. No problem with heat inside, either. Also, who in their right mind uses run craps on anything? My GTS was waaaaay easier to get in and out of than either of my Corvettes, too. The Viper rode better than either Vette too. Oh, my GTS also had a rear hatch unlock lever by the driver seat.

I say buy the viper while you can. Use it, experience it and see what you think. You can buy a hellcat any day of the week and have 100 to choose from in a 100 mile radius from your home. Gen 2s, not so much. Once you get the viper experience done with, the hellcats will be even less expensive and then you go get one of those. Life is short, experience both.

Daily driving go with the Hellcat all day every day. If it's a weekend car then go with the Gen2 Viper. The ownership costs are not bad if you get a decent car that is stock and you don't beat the crap out of and it's so much more unique and special than a glorified Challenger...

They're opposites. Completely.

One's a HUGE comfortably big cruiser, with both tiny V6 engine ( 300 hp ) options, as well as beastly, 707 - 797 horsepower-V8 engines with HEAPS of aftermarket upgrade pully & tune options, that'll get 1000 hp (crank-hp) very easily !

The viper is a low slung, curvy road track specialist (with a licence plate) . . . the hellcat is a HEAVY high horse powered stop light to stop light cruiser, that actually can corner well for such a heavy car. . . when you drive it hard.

Two different tasks, and two totally different vehicles.

Both are great fun.
