Time for a clutch. Input Please.

I was going up a very steep driveway and the clutch started banging away. Its been making noise for some time now.

My car. 1997 viper GTS
Roe 10lbs W/M, Headers, 200 Cell cats, catback
Going to put in 3.55 Gearing
SCT 60lb injectors blah blah.
Looking for 640-660rwhp when finally tuned properly.

My car will be staying at this power level. I'm looking for some clutch input here. I want something to handle the power and ZERO CHATTER. Cant stand that. I'm leaning towards a spec 3/3+ or centerforce. Not sure about the aluminum flywheel yet or not.

WHat do you guys/gals think is my best bet. I see a lot of people go with the LUK but i feel that would be better for stock power levels or with bolt ons only. I put 2-4 thousand miles on a year and want this job done right the first time.

I’ve had the LUK oem for ten years at 660rwhp/710rwtrq and it’s still quiet and holding strong. I have a spare kit on the shelf and haven’t needed it.

So no regrets with the LUK? Just weird to hear - go with basically the cheapest clutch possible on a 700hp + HP at the crank car.

Are you running a light weight flywheel?

If it makes you feel better to buy a more expensive one, knock yourself out. Iím just giving you feedback that it doesnít appear to be necessary. Iím sure RSI or Hennessy can hook you up with several expensive options. Give them a call.

Get a 6 PUK, I can sell you one, but talk to Matt at Spec. Mine feels like stock and grabs like a prego at 8 months even at 750 HP.

I have spec clutch and light flywheel (steel). For an aftermarket setup it works pretty well but does chatter sometimes (rarely). I have a very steep driveway that requires some extra revs to climb and this will cause the chatter because I have to slip the clutch also. Otherwise it will stall. If the factory unit will hold the torque use it. Forget the light flywheel as it brings other compromises that long term will become an annoyance.

The advantage to a light flywheel is heel & toe downshifting when you're at the track. In stop/go traffic, it makes it more of a pain to live with. The OEM flywheel is not designed to be resurfaced, but replaced with the clutch assembly. The Fidanza aluminum unit has a replaceable friction ring.

Hey Guys, I have a 2001 GTS all stock with 20K, my Clutch slave went out. Planning to change the clutch, pilot , throw out bearing along with the slave and master cylinder. Since this thread is about year old. What did you end up doing and how is it so far? If you have any tips or videos for disassembly and assembly please send my way. Thank you all. Appreciate the feedback.

If your power is 600 or less, stay with the LUK.
