The new springs come with a factory greasy oil on them. Which is what you are never supposed to do; put greasy oil on your springs. Once on the car it's a little tricky to wash them as well as them need to washed to clean all that off but see if you can soap them down. You won't hurt the engine. I wash my engine frequently. Alternative ideas are to just let nature take its course and let the greasy oil wear away on its own (I did that) or use a prop rod (I have one for when needed).

So I'm not missing anything then. No difference between the new or old springs.

Just hoping I was overlooking something, another hood prop it is I guess...

Appreciate the comment... here

I saw an immediate improvement after installing mine as far as ease of lifting. Which would suggest either the new springs are stronger, or the greasy oil just made the parts slide easier. And now after a while my hood stays up on it's own. Matter of fact it always has.

Be patient grasshopper.

Mine has never stayed up new or old springs, unless I am parked downhill. Removed the grease and no difference. Made my own hood prop as that is the only way I can keep it open.
