$2000-2500 for a tune? is this right

Conttacted a performance shop in the area that tunes all type of high end cars and they told me that to tune a viper is expensive and quoted me that range. Does that seem right. This is custom tune, did not get full details. Only mods is no cats, muffler, resanotor

It cost half that to have Torrie fly in and tune mine, hotel and food included.

Let me put it this way...

Its on the extreme high-end for a shop that does not deal with Vipers. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt, and that would include a Pro Racer Package [and you would be keeping it when done], a Wideband bung install, dyno rental time, and tuning time. I could potentially see it getting up that for in that case, if they ran it on the dyno all day long.

However, for a Viper tuner, that is craziness for any type of basic package on a near stock engine.

Now, that said, I have spent what is the equivalent of tens of thousands of dollars developing tune files for certain platforms- its not that hard to drop 80+ hours into developing proper tune files, and any tuner who claims it cant happen, is a hack. OEM's spend millions of dollars on tuning each vehicle, and anyone who thinks/claims you can sort out an application from scratch in half a day on the dyno, is either a an idiot or a bullshit artist. Just because it "feels OK" does not have shit to do with being properly tuned.

With such basic mods why not just buy a tune already developed and be done with it for a few hundred bucks?

Damn that seems like a lot, when I called RSI and got a quote last month it was 1/3 of that price. No other tuners in your area?

Perhaps that is the going rate in Saskatchewan ? Are you in the northern or southern part?

Back in the day I used B&G performance for a mail order re flash. They have been doing tuning on dodge products for a long time and for a lot of other tuners. Most of the tuners back in the day where relabeling B&G re flashed ecm's as their own and adding a viper tax. It was the best $300 I ever spent on a viper.

For a remote tune? I have an AEM that needs redone as my MAP sensor is 5 bar and needs to be a 2 bar which I bought a long time ago. My tune resolution is off. I wish Jeremy from RSI was closer to do my tune..........

I emailed them back about this subject waiting for their response. I live in Toronto Canada and yes I also thought it was way too much for my mods.

What plug in tune should I get? I don't want to blow up my engine >>>>>>>>>>>> I believe i read this somewhere on this site about plug in tuners.

To me it doesn't seem like you need a tune.
Are people picking up a lot of power by retuning on a near stock car?
