supercharge or turbo?

Anyone here recommend supercharge or single turbo? what power would 5psi give me.I know that the 450-500hp the vipers can get with no turbo can get boring but anyone where now tired with their supercharger/turbo set up. Does that power get boring. Any drawbacks from doing this set up?-----will the car break more often, etc. Thanks

All power gets boring. It's like heroin. You always need more.

Paxton with supporting mods like heads/cam/tune and fuel system to make some decent power in the 800-900 range fairly simply.

Turbo's if you want to make more power at lower boost levels where you get good power under the curve and don't have to worry about changing/replacing belts or swapping pulleys to raise or lower boost levels. With your 99 Gen2, you can safely make 950+ whp with a good turbo system without having to have the engine rebuilt. A pair of billet T4-67's with an .82 or .96 hotside should do the job just fine.

You should update your sig then.

Your 2000 has cast (hypereutectic) pistons good for an average of 750whp max while still being safe. A few guys out there have managed 850-900+ on stock cast pistons, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you have some seriously good compensation on the build like tuning and other cooling methods factored in to prevent detonation or burning holes through them.

Turbo's are more complicated but (IMO) drive better and deliver the power a little smoother over their supercharger counterparts. The cheapest option is to go either Roe (if you can locate one) or a Paxton supercharger with some supporting mods like I said before if you're looking for simplicity.

Todd @ AC Performance and Dan Lesser @ Viper Specialty would be the ones you'd want to talk to in more detail in regards to your budget and what power levels you're looking for in the long run.
Anything near or over the 1K HP mark, needs a rebuild with forged internals to handle the power regardless just FYI.

Paxton build from A&C

Cant put phone numbers or websites up unless they are Supporting Vendors, per site policy.

If they cant find it with a google search, they are lost anyway.

Forged and the same end to end length...BUT....big BUT....the wrist pins on the 2000-2002 are .945 while the earlier ones are .984. All press-fit and not full floating. So you can't just go around swapping rods on pistons and so forth. Ask me how I know. Most replacement rods (and there are many) are using a .927 full floating wrist pin.

Seems like once someone takes the plunge, they take it in a big way, meaning they have a shop build the crap out of it.

How important (compared to rods/pistons) are things like oiling mods, better bearings (both main and rod), main caps, ARP hardware, head studs, etc.

I'd be curious to know how many have just swapped rods/pistons and called it a day and how long things have held together

This 78mm TT Gen4 build in the video posted below from Underground was basically a "rods/pistons" build with the addition of billet throttle bodies in place of the stock ones. If I remember the numbers right, it made around 1350 whp on 21 lbs and very little timing on a warm dyno day running off of a Pectal tuning system from Cosworth.

The car ran some impressive times a few years back at the texas mile to boot.

I think you are asking the wrong question and supplying us the wrong info.

You should ask: I have x amount of money to spend, what are my best options?

If you dont want a big time project that takes forever and costs a fortune, supercharging is the way to go. If you want a competitive 1/2 mile or standing mile car, twin turbos. If 15K is the budget, I dont know if turbos is realistically on the menu.

Didn't Scotty build his single turbo for something like 8k? If memory serve me correctly, that thing is badass.
