Cheapest way to ship wheels/tires

I'm looking at shipping some wheels/tires. I want to say I got away with $180 a few years ago at FedEx by putting cardboard/bubble wrap over the faces and wrapping the shit out of them with shrink wrap (stockers, of course). When I had my 20s boxed up and shipped, I paid closer to $380.

Does anyone have a tried-and-true way of inexpensively/safely shipping wheels and tires?

I used ShipNex on a set of 19s with tires, was about $180 for all 4 after I packaged them as you described. Pretty easy to do and they contract out to FedEx (usually) so it was convenient to ship.

You can also try Greyhound. Last time I shipped with them, it was half the cost of Fedex.

I looked into this a few months ago when I sold some 19s with tires.

Ended up just going regular UPS as the cheapest.

I shipped them in 2 pairs. Made 4 cardboard circles to sandwich between them face to face. Put 3 cardboard circles on each back side. Wrapped around it like 20 times with that plastic wrap shit thats like giant saran wrap. Then I use plastic strapping around making a plus shape.

Was about $180 to get the pair from chicago to cali I think. I dont know for certain, the guy emailed me the labels to print. But before he did that I was checking myself and I think it came to $180.

edit: this bullshit also took me like 2 hours and killed my back and I will never do it again. Local sales only.

UPS seems to be the cheapest on average.

WATCH out for fedEx. They tried adding some bull shit fees for not being a "regular" shape. Charged me $8 extra per wheel on my business acct. Shipped 3 sets of wheels before I realized that.

Shipnex.com

Sign up for an account, then they'll call you the next day to confirm. Then you do the labels via their website and it'll instantly give you labels (has always come up as FedEx for me). They outsource to the big guys at a discount. You can even do pickup via the Shipnex website. Did this twice within the past 6 months with success.

I had custom boxes made from a boxmaker company I use.
