Maximizer Header Install & Review

Wanted to make a little install/review thread for the Maximizer Headers. Long story short, been really wanting headers for a long time now. Most headers are around ~$2k new, with the exception of M&M being about $13xx+Shipping. I was hoping to find something in the <$1k range.

After some research, found a header set on Ebay that looked very nice called "Maximizer" which I understand is a spin-off of the OBX headers.

I know, I know..OBX = Cheap chinese junk.

However, after further dwelling into it, lots of LS guys run the Maximizer headers and love them. Sound great, perform great, install with absolutely zero fitment problems, etc. They also have a lifetime warranty, so if anything ever cracks or breaks, I'll get a new set for free.

Since Christmas was around the corner, I put them on my wish list (along with gen 3/4 calipers for my big brake build), and my wife suprised me with pretty much everything I wanted.

In person, the headers look AWESOME. They look to be pretty much an ARH replica. Welds look great, sandblasted finish looks amazing, and they just "feel" like the quality is very nice. Even the 5-1 welds look great on the inside, and all the welds are properly grinded and sanded down.

Here's a quick picture of them. Right now waiting on my o2 harness extension to come in from Casper's Electronics, as well as 3" to 2.5" reducer to hook it up to my factory resonator/exhaust.

Will try and start the install on Saturday morning, and will take some pics along the way.

Can't wait to hear/feel how the car performs with these, and hope everything will go smooth!

Absolutely.

Hoping to hit about 470whp / 500wtq or so.

In the dead heat of summer it put down 443/477.

Have you done any other power mods since the 443 pull?

No, headers will be the only power mod since. Also, it was about 100 degrees when I did those pulls. I'm sure the cold air now in winter will help a few horses too.

From what I've read here on the forums, typical header gains for our early gen 2 cars are 20-30whp, and 20-40wtq or so. Our factory headers are very restrictive, even more so than the later gen2 cars.

Theirs is quite pricey at $850, I'd just go Borla at that point for $900.

They do look like ARH knock offs. Do you plan to have your headers jet coated? Thanks for posting this up. I'm interested myself in a set.

I would advise getting them coated. Read 8.0L>1.8T thread about exhaust install. There's a reason the stock headers come with heat shields. Stainless will radiate heat like a mother.

Maximizer Header Install & Review

If the headers are raw/bare metal, and you won't be ceramic coating them, wrapping them, or running a heatshield; do yourself a favor and buy a new HVAC intake plenum now...
I also highly advise doing a $30-$40 investment on spark plug boot insulators/boot covers/shields regardless of the headers being coated or just raw materials. I bought these and they work exceptionally well: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item...d=371189426338

WHEN you decide to get them ceramic coated, if you don't have a shop in mind, I would highly recommend shipping them to the guy that did mine. Tell him the Viper guys that took him out for a ride sent ya, he's been doing it 17 years and he'll treat you right on the turnaround and cost.

Subscribed. Was thinking about the gen 3 ones.

In regards to what everyone else said get them coated.

Anyone know roughly what coating cost?

Also m&ms are that cheap?
