Just a word to the wise--

Maybe I'm the only one who didn't think of this ahead of time, but I recently had my valve covers and intake powder coated. I never gave a thought to the possibility that the plugs in the rear of the manifold were "boss" fittings. (O-ring) I'm guessing that from the heat of baking the powder coat on, the O-rings cooked. I started smelling raw gas from the engine compartment and saw residue under # 9 intake runner where it met the head. I thought I might just need to re-torque the manifold, which I did. No good. Thanks to my good friend Dave 6666, who reminded me that those plugs indeed have O-rings, I didn't burn my car down.

So it would seem that the word to the wise here is that your powdercoater sucks.

Thanks for the tip. What color did you powder coat the covers? Also, how hard was it to remove them?
