Recommended heads and cam for 2002 viper GTS.

Which heads and can package is best suited for a 2002 viper GTS. It will be street driven and a little drag racing. Any advice would be apreciated please share your wisdom. Also what is a good shop to get the work down. Which shop is well versed on vipers?

Please use the damn search engine. Todd at AC does great work on heads. Greg Good is also great if you can get a hold of him. Stryker heads and JM Cnc heads have also been circulating lately.

I see you had a 2002. What did you like and dislike about it. I am looking to buy a 2002. What would you suggest to buy in a viper and what year? I have the funds to buy any model so what is the ultimate viper in your opinion?

I have a set of Greg Good heads I am putting in the classifieds this weekend. Greg has a great cam profile that is very street-able and makes good power. PM me for a package deal.

All depends on what you want. That question is a can of worms around here based upon what people want.

01-02 are not good for high hp cause of the cast pistons, but have ABS which is a plus if you want to build a car later to have traction control or plan on tracking it.

IMO, the G3/G4 is a much better car than the G2 stock to stock. Better brakes, more power, better cooling, and working AC. Some people don't like the styling and some love it. All comes down to preference. If you have a high budget as you say, you should drive both and pick the one that you like more. People love their cars here, so asking this question to people who have not owned multiple gens is worthless.

All you questions have been answered MILLIONS of times. Go do a search and come back when you have more specific questions.

lurk more, post less.

Buy a Viper...hell, drive one first, then start thinking about modding. Then search first.

Seriously dude, you didn't even know until today you wanted a 2002! Find a freaking car first, purchase it, and then ask the same questions that have been asked 1000x on here.

For all you know:

1) you will find a car that you like that already has mods which makes this thread pointless.
2) you will change your mind tomorrow and not buy a 2002.
3) you will realize your 12 and sitting on your mom's couch in your boxers and can't actually afford a Viper.

The whole point of me asking questions is to make the right choice. 1 forum members posted saying the 2002 is 't good to mod because of cast pistons. I did not know that until he pointed it out. I like the look of the 2002 FE but now not sure if I get it I can't mod it safely. So I might have to go for a different year. I am trying to like the look of them but I like the gen II the best. I only have room for 1 viper so it's tuff to get what I want.

If you want to mod a Viper (FI) get a 96-99. It is ALOT cheaper to upgrade the brakes than to upgrade the engine internals. Most of the 96-99s will already have the brakes upgraded anyways.

They all look exactly the same (Gen IIs)on the outside. There are only minor interior upgrades in the later models.

2000-2002 is ok to mod, but there are limits because of the cast pistons. If you were just doing heads and cam, 2002 is fine. In fact.there are several cast piston cars that have GG Heads doing big numbers. Stock shirt block, GG heads with a cam swap. Very do-able.

Dropping a set of forged slugs into a 2001-2002 is a hell of a lot cheaper that upgrading brakes on a 96-99…and you still won't have ABS after the BBK. Try again.
