New owner and tired of lurking

Hello everyone. I have been lurking on the site for several months; learning much about the cars and about the rules of the forum, both written and unwritten. I am fairly confident in my English skills as well, so hopefully I can keep the grammar police off my back.

I finally talked my wife into letting me buy a Viper after 15 years of hard negotiations. I rescued, and rescued is the proper term, a 1995 RT/10 with only 30k on the clock. As luck would have it, the car is a Heffner tuned Viper with 500 HP/ 560 TQ.

I purchased this as a father/son project with my 10 year old and one day it will be his. So far, I have seen his interest grow far faster than I anticipated and he has already spent more money in vehicle corrections than I can keep up with financially. I had to put the brakes on him a little, but the kid has real talent. As soon as I can post pics, I will show his handy work. Some of the items he has picked out are:

1. Forgeline Five Spokes with polished lip and gunmetal centers. (He even measured the offset specs)

2. Wheel Spacers

3. Lowering springs (Thank you Jon B.!)

4. Repainted the hood. It had a very odd purple snake painted on it.

5. Alpine deck

I look forward to this project with my son and getting to know you guys better. Like I said, I will post pics as soon as I can.

Regards,
Travis

I might have left it were it not for the cartoonish buck teeth and shimmering scales. It was a little too much for me.

Congrats and glad to hear you got rid of the painted snake. That kind of stuff is frowned upon here. Pics when you can post them!

I'll be the first asshole,

Why did you need wheel spacers after measuring offset?

J/k, keep him in the garage and off the video games!!!
Good luck with it, the purple snake sounds familiar, I've seen it somewhere before.

LOL Well, the spacers were necessary because even though he did a good job, he missed it by just a few millimeters. He's as much a perfectionist as I am (OCD) so we decided to just go ahead an make them flush.

I was thinking some on here may have seen the purple snake before and when I post the before and afters, it may jog some memories.

Thanks for the warm welcomes everybody.

After 15 posts, you can post pics, of which we'd all appreciate some of your wife soaping down the car. You know, the classic oopsie with the hose shot, complete with white t-shirt and ripped denim short shorts.

By the way, we never do get these pics, but in Alley fashion, it is customary to ask

I will do my best on the wife + suds pics Dave. She would probably be cool with it.

Bigmack, the only real complaints I have on this car are centered around the overall lack of care it was given. It was literally rotting in a garage. It even had a mouse living in the trunk. WTF!

Ughh. The though of having to use wheel spacers with a custom built set of forged wheels. Hopefully they are at least hub-centric billet spacers, not Pep Boys cast aluminum crap.

I know and completely agree. Yes they are hub-centric. It was a very small adjustment...about 1/8 inch, but like I mentioned I suffer slightly from OCD. Which, as I am discovering, is going to drive me crazy with this project. I have to fix a hood gap that I have been reading up on here as a not so easy fix. God I love this car!

I'm OCD about cars, too. OCD enough to avoid using wheel spacers on ANY car, as those are a garbage quick-fix and are worse than moving wheels 1/8". The only time spacers are acceptable, is if you have clearance issues. That is OCD.

Good point. Perhaps I was a bit too quick to jump on evening out the look. I would like the forum's opinion on something though, as my son and I are at odds over the issue.

The side exhaust, the ribbed heat shield part, has been polished to a brushed stainless steel surface. The car is black, but this part sticks out in my opinion. I want to have it painted black, but the boy seems to like it and he says "It shows good contrast." Who should win? I will add that the previous owner also added a few interior pieces in the same brushed stainless, which I want to return to black. Thoughts?

Just hurry up and and make 15 posts so you can post a before pic of that hood. That car was on auto trader or something like that, or maybe I was searching ugly viper pics as a joke. If I'm correct it's a big snake head with a goofy small body like it's dancing, trying to come out of hood. Lol just picturing it. Glad that was your first mod, it made the dolphin viper look good.

You can host pics elsewhere and link them you know... (ie: photobucket, imageshack, etc..)

Welcome.
