I am an E-4 with a gen 2 rt/10 and its almost paid off.
There is no way you will be able to afford a good one coming in as E-1, E-2 , E-3 unless you have a wife who makes more money than you and have no kids. If you are single living in the dorms its not going to happen.
1badvr4 summed it up. You need that BAH and roommates when you move out of the dorms. Go on a few deployments and save up 10-15k min for a down payment.

But from the sound of it you havent even gone through basic yet. So first things first. Get through your upcoming hurdles and then think of a car. This is the kind of car you buy when you know you will be in your current job for awhile. What if you absolutely hate the army? First things first then get a viper.

You make a point, but I wasn't planning on making a down payment for a Viper with my first paycheck as an E-1 haha. I was gonna save up over the course of 4 years, hopefully get a couple tours in and then have the money to buy a Viper straight up. But I've kinda changed my mind. Like you said, first things first. I'll probably try and find a decent early 2000's Vette or something for around $10,000.

Depends on a lot of things.

Where you live is a big one..

There's nothing like taking my rt/10 in the Socal canyons and hearing it yell. I did the same thing with the top on and it's not even close to the same feeling.

Can't go wrong with either a GTS or RT/10 Gen 2. After a while your going to want to upgrade something ( unless you can find one that has all the stuff already which you might) bigger brakes, more power etc..

Best move is to drive both and you should know which one you like best. Asking us wont solve your problem.

On the money side listen to the guys here...it's going to cost you way more then you think even after you buy it. So save your money and invest.
Having at least a 2 year safety fund plus good money invested already before you even start to think about getting a viper. I'd pass on the vette and invest that money...if you want a viper and that's your dream car work towards it...
