My head,cammed GTS

Fired up the 97 GTS today. It's been almost a year since I drove it, been busy tracking the 2010 ACR and Z06. Driving the new Gen V too. Also been doing a lot of karting..

The GTS has Jeff Morey stage 3 ported heads. The heads were milled. Bumping up the compression a point ( 10:5 to 1).. It also has a cam.. Along with American Racing 5 into 1 stepped stainless steel headers, Borla 3inch exhaust no cats.. I also did a bunch of other stuff to it. 3:33 rear gears, Tru-Trac differential, Donato built T56 with revised 5th and 6th gear.. KW coilovers, bigger brakes etc.. The car made 590+ rwhp and 566 tq on 91 pump gas.. Dan Cragin and the guys at DC Performance did all the work. The work was done quick, and very professional..

Anyhow I forgot how fun this car is to drive. It really wakes you up.. The instant power when you just hit the gas.. The sound, how loud and nasty it is.. How it screams..I'm a big fan of naturally aspirated power. I gave my buddy a ride in it today.. He's a Porsche ,European car guy.. He tracks a 2011 911 GT3RS. On the ramp jumping on the freeway in 2nd gear. I punched it,and the front of the car felt like it was lifting while accelerating, and with the Tru-Trac rear differential it just goes. I was like damn I love this car..While he was grabbing on the door handle saying holy fuck..

I know my ACR and Gen V is faster on the track, but I like how the power is on my GTS. Especially how it comes on.. There's nothing like it.. It makes the other cars boring to drive on the street..

Nice Lee, as much as I love a good turbo build, there's nothing like the hassle free enjoyment of an N/A build on a good tune that drives like stock with plenty of power to use when needed.
Nice to see you getting the "old" girl out.

Perfect! That is a mean setup. I hope to have a GTS that nice sometime soon. I'd love to hear what it sounds like!

yep, nothing like a b/w gts. I agree with you on how its is in every form, "perfectly raw"!

I love how it sounds at every RPM. i like hearing the sound bounce off the houses behind me as im punishing my neighborhood!

mine makes a pretty loud whine though if ya know what i mean

Awesome car Lee!!!

Your B/W is one of the cars that made me fall in love with B/W. That picture in your driveway is perfection for a B/W GTS.

Glad to hear you still have that car, and you "rediscovered" the magic of the original GTS. Enjoy!

sick! Is it smooth low speeds? Does it buck with the cam? Have you taken it on the track?

It's smooth, and hardly bucks.. They did a great job on the tuning.. Yes I have tracked it before, but it's way too loud for Laguna Seca.. Thanks..

really nice car!!!

I'm going to get heads/cam done on my car soon so it wont be that far from what you have. So your saying the feel of the car compared the others just feels more "BAD ASS" ???

Really curious to hear additional feedback of how the gen2 makes you smile bigger compared to the other cars...

Thanks. Both the Gen 4 and Gen 5 power comes on much later.. Probably due to the variable valve timing ( V V T ) ,and you can't tune, cam them like the Gen 2s .. I'm also not a fan of the side exhaust on the gen 4 and gen5. I really like the rear exhaust on my GTS .. Rear exhaust sounds much better IMO.. It has more of a higher pitch, raspier ,tuned sound.. You hit the gas and the power is just explosive on the GTS,and love how it idles with the cam too.. Just sick..

Give Dan Cragin a call.. His shop is in Alhambra..

I agree, FI is great, but there's nothing like a nice n/a build that has "useable" power on the street everywhere, and you can get on it having fun without going full warp speed at 1k+ rwhp lol. Same for the ZO6, they run so nice too with a nice head/cam package. Just imagine if they were able to do similar packages on the Gen IV and V motors, that would be nutz for a n/a setup and the vvt.
