I guess I got lucky for a change

Tore the car apart on Thursday to put in a new clutch. It was time. No leaks and no slippage, just time. Got it all apart and new clutch installed and when I went to bench bleed the new master I hooked it up to the old slave and pumped some fluid through. I saw some fluid coming out of the back of the old slave right around the edge of the center. Had a crack about an inch long almost halfway around!! Front of trans was dry when I pulled it and so was the cover for the flywheel? Clutch master never lost any fluid either. I guess maybe the pressure against the front of the trans kept the crack closed up. That sucker could've come apart at any time. Don't want to think what could have happened if it did in traffic. Hopefully have the car back on the road tomorrow. Thanks for the words of wisdom Dave 6666.

You might have cracked the slave when pulling the transmission. I've broken 3 slaves, either removal or install due to the trans being tilted/not lined up and putting pressure against the slave housing cuasing the crack.

Lots of tuners replace the slave every time they are doing a clutch. Too many fail right after clutch replacement.

Yea, I thought about that. I might have cracked it when removing it from the trans. SOB looks like it is made of pot metal. Seems like they could make it out of aluminum for a little more strength.

Jtsvp on the SRT10 truck forums made one billet aluminum, but isn't sure if it will work on the cars. I imagine SRT used the same one considering.
