Improving the Hurst short shifter

First shot shows how much longer the Hurst is than the stock shifter.

Here's the piece I cut off

I then carefully ground down the shaft on a bench grinder so I could thread it 1/2"-20.

Last pic shows how much better it looks than the "cue ball" that normally goes on the Hurst shifter. Nice and short and shifts like a dream.

Nice job. I had the Hurst in my car when I bought it, thought the throws between gears took way to much effort. I removed it and went back to the stock shifter(removed the isolator, makes it feel much better). I have the Hurst in my basement if anyone would like it.

My Hurst unmodified sits like yours does after you cut it down. Strange.

I sold my Hurst (loved the shifter when installed however) because I couldn't drop the tranny with that non-removable ass-long handle coming out of the top. I went with a modified stocker that works perfectly and I can drop the tranny very easily now without having to unbolt the entire shifter mechanism. Hurst (once installed) is a great shifter but if you are in the habit of dropping the tranny every now and then, it makes it a real PITA with that Hurst design.

I've had stock, Hurst and B&M and like the Hurst the best as far as feel goes, but you're exactly right...it sits up too high. I've been planning on doing that as soon as I feel industrious enough. Nice work!
