Routed the IAC hose into the intake, per a previous poster's recommendation.

The filter that was on the IAC originally was a crappy, old eBay one it seems. The foam on the filter had broken down and was getting sucked into the engine. IDIOTS!

We ran the IAC into the coupler pre-TB. Didn't help the idling problems. I think the damn thing is in dire need of a tune. If I leave it idling it my driveway, in about 30 seconds I'll have a wet spot of gasoline by each exhaust exit.

That's my update for now.

Well at least now your not getting shit sucked into your motor and you know its all clean air but as far as fuel leaking outta your exhaust goes, thats a whole different issue. You got a beautiful car so dont run it anymore like that until you have an expert look at it

Bad upstream O2 sensors will dump fuel like that. It's probably sensing a lean condition from the heads/cam and trying to dump fuel to compensate for it.

I may have missed it, but before you think about boosting, what is your CR? Was the block or heads decked? You don't want to putting boost to that car if you cr is over 10:1

As far as your over fueling issue goes, check to see the AFR is. I'm betting your pig rich. I know this worked on the Gen2 but I'm not sure about Gen 1...but it's cheap and easy to tune with, it's long forgotten by most but it's called a Split Second FTC1 (FTC1-025). I had one on my other GTS and it worked very well. Doug Levin swears by them on his N/A and SC setups. It's cheap and easy piggy back tuning solution for N/A and mild SC setups. You can pick it up and the software for about $500

There is a Unichip Q+ in the car. Whatever that is.

The Unichip website is horrible.

I need to 1) find the damn thing and 2) hook my computer up to it and 3) get a wideband sensor.

Question...does the Viper v10 have a knock sensor? I am very shy about tuning without one, for good reason.

Some info on the Q chip. Methinks this is how the nitrous is triggered...I REALLY need to get my laptop connected to it and see what's going on.

No knock sensor for the gen 1. I've never heard of a Viper tuned with a Q-chip.

Oh it may not even have that chip. Who knows.

All I know is that the previous owner said it was behind the passenger side knee panel. I looked and didn't see anything, may need to dig deeper. It was pitch dark out when I looked.

If it doesn't have a knock sensor, I assume tuners drill and tap for one. You can't tune without one, in my opinion. That is, unless these motors are just so bulletproof that head gaskets become an issue before knock ever does. Maybe I'm just spouting non-sense and I don't know half as much about this stuff as I let on. It's all possible.

Lol, no tuners do not install them. Tuners rely on experience and listen carefully for detonation and watch the A/F closely. Some also read plugs. Most will add timing until the car stops making power/tq gains and then back it off a little. I would suggest finding someone who is experienced with tuning Vipers (even if you have to travel).

I would also suggest getting a VEC as opposed to a splitsec unit. You can wire the wideband into it and data log with the VEC as well. I believe DC performance (if still open) in California can reflash the gen 1 PCM, but your options are limited.

I found the UniChip Q+ where the owner said it would be.

He didn't give me the cable to connect via USB, but I ordered one for $35. Once I get my computer connected to it I will report back. I'm going to start by leaning it out just a touch between 250 and 750 rpm in an attempt to get a nice idle. I'm not going to mess with trying to squeeze power out of it, I'll pay someone for that. I just want a nicer idle. I'm not going to make drastic adjustments.

I really want to see if the nitrous is controlled with this chip, I have a feeling it is.

(And yeah, I do realize that while lean conditions at 750 rpm with no load on engine may be fine, lean conditions with a lot of load on the engine is not fine) Hopefully there are provisions for adjusting by gear, kind of like the Apex'i AVC-r can learn different gears.

Stock injectors? I would look at the addaptives to see how the PCM is compensating in closed loop. If you have stock injectors, then you probably have to add fuel so the PCM will stop adjusting for the lean condition caused by the heads/cam.

No receipts for injectors. Probably stock.

Another update. The gas pumps at our local fill-up are a little wonky. Sometimes they will top your tank off, especially with how the nozzle sits in a 1st gen.

Anyway, basically filled it up to the brim. Ran like shit, immediately.

Drove it 3/4 mile to get it home, sputtering and backfiring like CRAZY. The exhaust was insanely hot and I smelled burning plastic. Made the mistake of touching the vinyl sticker forward of the exhaust runner (maybe that's not stock, I don't know) but the sticker melted onto my finger. Hurt.

Syphoned 2 gallons out of the tank, and it started running fine again. Fun times.

you said: "The rear end was changed, too. He said he had to install a piece of electronics to make the speedometer read correctly, due to the rear end, and that box may have failed or something."

cool story and nice car... If he had gears they had a speedo calibration box. of some sort ..yellowbox. Yellow Box Geared By UNITRAX!
