Looking to buy a Viper. Advice needed.

Hi guys, new to the site and hopefully I'll be around for a while.

I've been searching a couple months now for a Viper to buy locally, preferrably a Gen II GTS. I've received some advice regarding Gen II's and III's but I still feel the GTS is a better looking car, which is why I'm leaning that direction.

I found this car locally and I'm trying to go check it out this weekend

phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/3982467752.html

The price seems fair but I thought I'd get some input from other owners. Things to look out for, stay clear of etc... Any input is appreciated. I have seen a few Gen II GTS cars sell for less so any input here will go a long way.

I'm also considering a very low mileage 2005 Ram SRT-10 for about $10k less so it's kind of a toss up between the two at this point.

More than anything I am looking for something that will not lose too much value in the event that I need to sell in a few years. I only plan on occassion weekend drives around town.

Nothing looks or reads suspect with the exception the brake fluid looks as dark as molasses. May just be the light tho.

An SRT Ram will not turn heads like the GTS if that's your game.

I think there are some owners in AZ maybe they will chime in and volunteer to scope the car out for you.

Never driven a viper but had a 480 rwhp cobra if that's any comparison. I am not lookin to race. Seeing what the tires cost I doubt I'll be doing anything more than casual driving.

I had a 550rwhp GTO which is a similar car to your cobra. To be honest the viper is a much more brutal drive and mine is stock...I love it

with those upgrades that looks like a pretty good deal as long as it hasn't been wrecked, and it's one of the rarer colors to boot. i would ask about previous owners or if he did those mods so you can get a better idea of the integrity of the mods, and maintenance/upgrade records would be a huge plus. have someone run the VIN or pay for it yourself.

Yes! Run autocheck, carfax, and after all that, check the car in person. I also recommend a PPI at a reputable dodge dealer.

Eddie Martin, the Viper Tech at Bill Luke Dodge in Phoenix, is the go-to guy for anything Viper. You can definitely trust his advice and experience. He makes owning a Viper in AZ a worry free deal as far as getting problems taken care of.
