Tommy began racing in 1970 in Autocross. Qualified on the pole the SCCA Runoffs in his first attempt in 1975. Picked up first professional victory in the 1982 IMSA Champion Spark Plug Series race at Summit Point. Won seven of 16 races in the IMSA Champion Spark Plug Series to claim the Championship in 1984. Joined Archer Brothers Racing with brother, Bobby, to win 11 SCCA World Challenge Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ Championships in the early to mid 90s. In 1990, competed in all eight World Challenge Super Production races and finished third in the Drivers’ Championship. In 1991, competed in six of eight World Challenge Super Production races, capturing his first two wins (Mosport and Saltillo). Won the Detroit Grand Prix and finished third in the 1992 Trans-Am Series to grab Rookie of the Year honors. Picked up second Trans-Am win at Lime Rock in 1993. Helped Chrysler Corporation win its first-ever international racing title with a victory at Silverstone. Raced with Viper Team Oreca in 1998 and 1999. In 1999 and 2000, drove for the Dodge Viper factory team in the American LeMans Series. In 16 ALMS starts, Archer recorded two GTS wins (Las Vegas in 1999 and Infineon in 2000), finished every race in the top-five and started from the pole twice. In 2002, won his third-career Trans-Am race at Portland
