Getting a 1994 rt/10

Hey guys, I was originally going to get a ZR1 corvette but now Im in the market for a rt/10 im getting a real good deal on one right now, should be getting it in a couple of days, Im In San Diego. One thing I was wondering is how exhaust/air intake systems/headers do towards mpg? I know the 1994 im getting has side exist exhaust, can the rear exit exhaust systems made for the 1996? + be used instead of the side exit ones? Or is there some modifications needed? Thanks guys, happy to be with you! :thumb:

They can be used, but you'll need to either cut your existing rear fascia for muffler/exhaust tip clearance, or buy a used Gen2 fascia. The original RT exhaust system has quite a bit of back pressure, and either going to hi-flow cats, and/or lower restriction mufflers is a good way to improve performance and sound. I do NOT recommend going catless with free-flow mufflers. The resonance and volume is painful to the ears. On the intake side, you will improve breathing (assuming you have 100% stock components) by removing the intake tubes and resonance canister between them and going to K&Ns and smooth inlet tubes. Even with stock exhaust manifolds, all this will free up about 25+ hp and get you to around 390 rwhp if the motor is in good shape.

I also just bought '94 RT/10 and what mufflers would you guys recommend? I will also check into the smooth tubes on the intake side. Any advice is welcome as I will be wanting to get all the HP I can at this stage.

Any free flow mufflers will make a big difference. I initially (and for 3-4 years) used glasspacks (!) and they sounded and performed well. Smooth tubes, K&N, and free flow mufflers are inexpensive and worthy mods.
Going to rear exhaust could be expensive since you would also have to get new sidesills without the exit for the exhaust. I personally like the side exit.
I have an extra set of 3" in and out Dynomax free flow mufflers that will fit in the sidesills with no problem. If one of you is interested, let me know.

If you have a stock exhaust, cat and muffler, first start off by removing cat and/or replacing with high flow.

Borla XR-1 series muffler goes well. This is what I had when I drove my 94RT (was part of the Gen I cat-back).

Call Roe Racing and get his setup. It added 21 rwhp to my 94
