Track prep for RT/10

Any of your track nuts want to run down the minimum safety requirements for a high 9 sec 1/4 mile pass in a RT/10? Do they classify it as a convertible? Driveshaft loop and 6 point cage?

Thanks,

really depends on the track. some will tell you cage, 5 points, fire suit, neck brace, helmet, fire shoes, DS safety loop, external fuel cutoff, parachute, ejection seat, and traction control. <----last two were just thrown in there.

others will say if your car was built to handle the speed they are more forgiving, vipers will run 10s pretty easily with not too many mods. the track I will be frequenting said as long as it's test and tune, they will let me run a 9.00 in my GTS with just a helmet and neck brace, although I already have halfshaft and driveshaft safety loops. I would likely stick a set of 5 points in my car just because once I get her on the track again.

If it's an NHRA track, give it up. If it's a locally owned non sanctioned track, you can get away with a lot more. Technically any convertible going faster than 13.49 needs a cage. Just to give you an idea. Technically for 9's you should have a fire suit, gloves, etc.

At MINIMUM, I'd have a fire jacket, neck brace and long pants. Make it look like you're attempting to be safe.

Thanks guys, I don't think they would give me a hard time if it looked like I was trying. I don't want to make a drag car out of it, just want to hit some test and tunes to see what I can do.

So the RT/10 is considered a convertible? You could look at it like a targa top similar to a Corvette couldn't you?

So at minimum I should look at a drive shaft loop, 6 point cage, and safety gear head to toe? I just put a 5 point harness in. Obviously the cage is the biggest commitment, especially since that would make my 3 piece top pointless.
