2012 SRT-8 Jeep

Got mine on Monday...yeah, I know pics...what a great machine!!! Totally different animal than the previous generation. Interior is amazing, ride is great (u can switch between track, sport, auto, snow, tow). Some of the aggressive exterior design "bite" is definitely gone, but it more than makes up for it IMO. Brakes are insane, 19 speaker stereo is great, panaramoic sunroof is sweet, black interior is a huge upgrade over previous grey. Just a real solid feel to it.

I just looked at one on eBay. Over $60k for one of those now??? Looks like optioned out they'll MSRP in the mid-60's.
That's a helluva' lot of money for a Grand Cherokee, regardless of how fast it is.

Congrats on the new GC SRT8! I like them, but wish they had a more agressive look to them... The interiors are a huge improvement over the older version.

They say the Gen I's were qyuicker / faster - your thoughts?

Yeah, I agree... I actually like the look of the base V8 GC over the SRT 8.

They are neat, but with kids, they're not practical for me. Honestly, the new SHO I bought earlier this year is far more practical than my GC SRT was. Huge trunk and interior, AWD and just as quick as my truck was.
But they seem to have made some serious improvements over the WK1's.

Yeah...the price was almost a breaking point for me and they pulled a bs trick when guys ordered and had their price....just before release (4-6 wks.) they substanially bumped up the pricing on 4 options and made two of the options mandatory for the purchase. I got all the options minus summer tires and was out the door for $62,200 tax included (got it at dealer cost). Got $23k for the wk1.

Gen 1's are supposidly .2 quicker.....new ones way @ 500lbs. more. Everybody modes these fuckers so .2 is nothing to me. In the gen 1 you felt like you were going fast....in this one you don't and it hauls ass especially up top definitely stronger than the gen 1.

I believe they have 4" more of rear legroom than the older ones and the interior is more spaceous just due to it being larger overall. Ton of technology in it...going after BMW and MB...not sure they are going to convert any of them as it's more attitude with those buyers, but for me who could afford any of them it's the vehicle for me. American muscle now with a hint of luxury....

I guess $62k out the door isn't too bad.
With three boys, the smaller SUV's like the GC, X5 and ML are all too small. I agree that they may have a hard time luring BMW and MB owners, but they are a nice truck.

Timely thread for me, keep us posted. I have been waiting for the price drop on pre-owned BMW X5Ms that is going to take place by year end.

The GC SRT8 might be the way to go. How much will it cost to bump that 470 hp over the top dog 555 of BMW, or the '12 ML63(rumored 570hp)?

Yeah...but I was out the door $20k less in 2006 (no nav etc.). That's why you make the wifey drive the big suv like mine does. I have 3 kids and this is good for short hops....two hour+ drives are another story (fists swinging, drinks flying, elbows, kicking and pinching in such a confined area would not be good...it isn't good in a full size suv to begin with lol).

We just bought a loaded '12 Expedition Limited EL for NJ and are picking up a '12 QX56 for Florida tomorrow or Friday. I have a sedan at both houses for regular use along with fun cars, so I'll probably never end up in a GC SRT again.
Good luck with it.

I don't see a 12' SRT-8 GC touching the X5M or CTT with just those mods, gonna need forced induction to take them out. The torque on those engines is sick. Friend ran an stock 11' CTT in his 08' SRT-8 and got obliterated, and he has basically all the bolt on's inc kooks headers and dyno tune. He had the edge down low, but once up to 60 the CTT would start pulling hard, from a roll buddy had no chance lol.

Those new CTT's fuckin fly. Even if I wanted to buy the Jeep now I wouldn't knowing theres a new trans coming out, was supposed to be a 6 speed for V8's, but looks like now their adapting the new 8 for the V6 line for V8/SRT duty. Should help out nicely considering how fat the new Jeeps are, X5M is heavy too, but damn Cayenne is a couple hundred pounds lighter then the Jeep when it used to be the bloated one lol.. crazy

The SRT Jeep has the same type of PCM the Challenger does so adding ANY mods beyond the cat back will not be happening. It is pretty damn fast though for a 5000# vehicle and yes the inside is awesome compared to the earlier model.

Yeah...we drove one last week and the dealer had an inbound truck in the liquid platinum color we wanted. Then the salesman fucked around and somebody else bought it. He found another and I put a deposit on it last night after agreeing to price. About an hour ago I found out that truck has a "defect" in the paint and will need paint work. I don't want that, so am looking at a platinum graphite tomorrow morning...4wd, deluxe touring, theater, tech package and 2nd row bench. Real nice truck.
