dave6666 ABS is also for people that can't think and react faster than a computer. Studies have confirmed that this includes even the most renowned professional drivers like F1 champions etc. If you are above that class, yeah, get the Fred Flintstone model.

BlackGTS There's a guy in our local group who has a grey 2000.



It's a Viper.



We don't all point at him and whisper behind his back because it's a 2000. It just isn't the most desired model.




Buy what you like. And I am also in the camp that the ACR wheels are aweful, but that is an easy fix.

the steel grey color they sprayed that year is really nice but I'm biased..

ABS is for pussies and unless your adding big power not having forged is not the end of the world.

if you want stripes and like the ACR wheels go for the ACR....

Just have someone check it that knows their stuff before you buy it..

gage ACR shocks seem to require rebuild more often. Perhaps it's the type of shock or the high spring rates causing more wear and tear, but either way you would want to watch your shocks every now and again for excess seepage. Small seepage on ACR shocks is considered normal.

Jspoken When you say it will need suspension work.. What exactly does that mean? I will just be driving it on the street here and there.

Silver stripes really look great on the Steel Gray body. Well, then again they look great on any Viper

It really is personal taste, though; but, I would bet that most buyers would be looking for Vipers with stripes.

Jspoken Gotcha.. I have heard that the ABS is not going to make a huge difference but good to know all of the pros/cons.

I really like the look of the Iforged gunmetal wheels. Ideally I would like to find a GTS with those on it but how much would I be looking at if I just got a stock GTS and changed out the wheels to the Iforged?

gage You might get razzed among the Viper faithful for having a 2000 but it's still a Viper... price being equal and mileage similar I'd try to jump for the ACR, just know you'll need suspension work like others have said. The motor only matters if you want big power and not everyone wants that.

Jspoken Cool thanks for the info fellas. Both cars are selling for $45k. The ACR has 15k miles and grey stripes. The GTS has 9k miles and no stripes.

Any thoughts on stripes vs. no stripes on the steel gray? Unfortunately there are not any cars in my city that I know of to go look at.

rockysunrise Since I have a 2000 just listen to me :-)

If you plan to mod the car then I would not get the ACR.

If you plan to keep it stock then the ACR would be a little better investment if the cars are at the same price and same condition.

If you look at the ACR and the first thing you think is "Damn I dont like these wheels and I want to replace them" then I think the decision is easy. Most guys on the alley change the wheels on the car from stock..

ACR's sell much higher. They were $10k more when new and they are just more sought after the same as gen4 ACR's.

MTGTS 2000 has no ABS or forged pistons. ACR's suspension will most likely need some work.

dave6666 ACR also has the oil bypass adapter. Plus the stigma that it's a coveted car. Like all the blue / white owners think.

gage ACR spring rates are insane, like 1200# correct? (GTS should be 400# or so)

mbccenter You will not tell the difference with the abs. The shocks in the 00-02 ACR ride rough and need to get rebuilt from time to time. Wheels, shocks, and smooth tubes are the only differance.

Looking to buy a Viper, Need advice please!

Hello everyone. I am new to this site. I am looking at buying a 2000 Steel Gray GTS Viper but I have also seen the ACR version as well.. Same year, same color and for about the same price as the regular GTS.

I am not planning on racing this car but just want a 2nd fun car to drive here and there. Is there going to be a big difference between the two in the way they drive? Will one suit me better for what I am looking for?
Will the ACR hold its value better?

And lastly, I have heard a lot of people say the 2000 is not the year to go with but again will ABS make a big difference for me? I don't think so but maybe there is something I am missing. I love the steel gray color w/ the stripes!
