2015 Corvette Z06 Photos Leaked

Quote:
This is it! The spectacular 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

Looking stunning in an appropriate shade of yellow (the official color of Corvette Racing) the Z06 promises to be the most track-capable Corvette ever with 620 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque!

Exactly how that amount of power will be generated isnít confirmed but itís believed Chevy will use a supercharged V8 Ė the high torque number seems to suggest forced induction.

Either way, the power bump is a significant increase over the factory 455 hp in the Stingray and that torque figure actually puts the new Z06 ahead of the ZR1.

I like it, definitely an upgraded look over the base model, and less subtle than previous generations.

If it looks anything like that I could give two shits if it still looks really similar to the C7 and see 20 a day, that looks aggressive and mean. Hood looks awesome vs the ZR1 hood that looks like a cheap after thought.

Damn. If the G5 had one foot in the grave, this will knock it into it. Sorry, this is fucking awesome, much better than the standard Z51. If the C7 ran 11s with just 460HP, what do you think it will run with 620HP. This is a 10 second car with DRs. Car is hot.

Looks really bad ass, love the aero. If it proves to be capable on the road course I would be interested in one. Still wish they didn't put a blower on it for road racing.

Gen V is already a 10 second car Stock C6s already ran low 12s/high 11s on stock tires. Most of the differences can probably just be attributed to the better stock tires, as traps are similar. As such, I don't see the C7 as some magically better drag platform. C6 ZR1s weren't exactly slow.

You have no idea what you're talking about.
The Gen V went 10's on DR's. The C7 Z06 will do it bone stock. And if you think that the advantages the C7 has over the C6 is just "better stock tires", then you're are just plain clueless. And traps aren't "similar", unless you are looking at the 7-year compilation of the C6 LS3 Fast List with the average of the top 10 cars being ~117 mph. And in those 7-years, exactly 3 cars made it into the 11's (and the supposed fastest LS3 was tuned, then wasn't, then was, then wasn't the day it ran 11.7). My bone stock C7 has gone over 120 mph and 118 mph in ~2000' DA.
The C7 A6 is very much a "magically better drag platform", but that's only evident to people who actually drag race and not internet experts.

I'm glad you have already driven the C7 Z06 and can report back on its performance. Considering a Gen IV has done 10s on stock tires, I have a hard time believing a Gen V won't do the same (unless the track-gearing messes it up). Considering more C7s probably visited a strip in the first day of customer deliveries than Gen V Vipers in history, I expect their fast numbers to come a bit quicker.

Considering you currently have the fastest time of any stock C7 according to the fast list ([email protected]), I'd say you aren't necessarily representative of the average C7 driver either. The average trap speed of the top 4 fastest C7s is 118.29 mph. The average trap speed of the top 4 C6s (excluding the top time due to possible mods) is 117.03 mph.

No doubt the C7 is a bit quicker, but people gushing over it running these times, ignoring the C6's numbers is what pisses me off. You don't like Gen V, I get it. However, if all of the arguments rely on largely ignoring facts, then I'm gonna call people out on it.

I do agree that a stock-tired Z06 will run 10s, as did a ZR1, but I don't see any reason to believe it will demolish the ZR1's times assuming the power is rated correctly and they don't roll out some wicked 8 speed auto or DCT (which is a possibility).

Man I am glad I got in line for one of these. I got in line for a Z and a new ACR. I have a feeling I will be giving up my spot on the ACR as it will be a disappointment. I'm not giving up hope just yet, but it aint looking good for the home team.

Unless they come up with a cool color, Im going white on the Z. I think it will look sick with the carbon accents.

Let me know when a bone stock Gen 5 runs 10's. Until then, it's speculation.

You are including the whole four stock cars on the C7 Fast List. Let's talk again in a year when all of the top 10 cars are over 120 mph.
And, oh, in the "top 4 C6s" the same guy who had the controversial fastest LS3 is included with another LS3 he apparently owned that ran a ridiculous trap speed of 122 mph (lol) at Cecil in mid-30* air with a "ridiculous tailwind". Review the C6 Fast List...two other cars on the entire "stock" list ran 118 or faster, yet his two cars magically ran well over 119 and 122 mph. Stock my ass.
Same day, same track stock C6 A6 vs. stock C7 A6:

Game over.
Apples to apples, the C7 is going to be ~.5 quicker and ~3-4 mph faster than a C6 all day, every day. This will become apparent as more samples are added to the data base.

Run them same day/same track and then make that statement. Nearly all of those Z06/ZR1 "records"? Set at MIR in super-negative DA temps pushing the car into the waterbox and starting it for the burnout and then staging them.

Ok, so rather than just go back in forth with numbers, please enlighten me (genuinely interested here) as to why the C7 chassis is so much better at going fast in a straight line other than the MUCH superior stock tires? Obviously the LT1 is a little stronger motor than the LS3, so that explains the (currently) small differential in trap speed. However, it never seemed like the C6 platform had a hard time hooking up. Both Z06s and ZR1s (on much better tires) posted some of the fastest RWD 0-60s ever tested by the mags, so where is the big straight line advantage (other than motor?)

Here's a pretty telling video of what a stock C7 will do to a stock C6 at the track (note that the C7 had a ~.300 advantage in RT and a .8 advantage in ET). Fast forward to 2:18:

More rear weight bias, much more low end torque, ~25-30 more rwhp (as numerous dyno results prove), smaller higher rpm stall torque convertor, revised A6 tranny programming, better tires (yes...it's one of numerous reasons).
Same day, same track on Sunday a guy was running an LS3 A6 Grand Sport with the LS7 intake, tune, ZR1 wheels with Michelin PSS tires. His best was a 12.2 at 115. He was there on Friday night too...he went a 12.0 at 117 compared to my 11.61 at 119.2. That's a modded car on 325 Michelin PSS's. He is in awe at how well the C7's work at the track. He also drove one at PBIR and was floored by it.
I'm keeping this car stock, and it will be coming back up to NJ. I think it can get into the 11.3's. A stock, non-Z51, 1LT A6 with an average sized driver (not a 230# guy like me) has a VERY good chance of getting into the 11.2's.
