I like that laser setup. I use a couple $7 lasers for my alignments.
My bracket base is parallel to the centerline of the car. Toe measurements are consistent because my reference stays the same. Bump steer like I just did takes forever, but that doesn't happen very often.
Most racecars have jigs that pin to hardpoints on the chassis, and hang monofilament down each side. Indycars use dial calipers to measure toe and ride height.
