Every test has shown the Viper beating the ZR-1 to 150mph...and by a decent margin...CarandDriver has done a test with the Z06 vs the Z51 and the ZR-1 and in that test the ZR-1 hit 150mph in 16.4 seconds, the same as the 2008= viper did in another test by caranddriver BUT when caranddriver tested both the ZR-1 and Viper head-to-head, same day, same pro driver, same track conditions, weather, etc... The Viper had it by .7sec..... was this because the ZR-1 has to shift before 150mph? or is this just RAW Viper power?? Road and Track has a transmission sheet on one of their test of the ZR-1 showing the ZR-1 is good for 150MPH at the top of fourth gear b4 shifting...
Red line is the stock ZR1, Green is a tuned one. The crappy looking, faint red line is an 08 Viper. The Viper consistently dynos with more power on the top end than the ZR1. And as you can see, the ZR1 has nearly as much torque MORE than the Viper at low RPM as the Viper has more torque than it does up top.
A lot of people get caught up on dyno numbers and they really mean nothing at all. Just becasue a car puts down XXX on a dyno doesn't mean it's going to run XXX at the track.
The power of the Viper is all NA where the power in the ZR1 is Boosted. The boosted car will lose a little power between the shifts and will be much more sensitive to heat soak on a 0-150 pass.
Business partner and I did a 40-160 run in our identical stock 06 Corvette Verts (only difference was I had a 160 thermostat) We were dead even to 120 and past that my car pulled him pretty hard (2 cars). All from a $20 thermostat because the car's motor stayed cooler. I imagine the difference is the same on the ZR1 vs Viper.
There are so many variables on different cars. I can compare my 06 Viper coupe with paxton with 700rwhp vs my 07 Z06 with Twin Turbos on waste gate with 700rwhp and the viper wasn't even in the same league. Vett would run 9's@142-144 and the Viper never ran better then 11.2's@129. Differences were I had an auto put in my Z which kept the boost going between gears, and how the power is made. My 06 Coupe would only put a couple cars on a lightly modified C6 Z06.

We can all agree that dyno numbers won't make or break a race.. But just for grins here is another overlay from an 08 viper and a 09 ZR1.. There is no way it won't be a close race with the type of comparison, the driver and the conditions (heat soak, temp, etc) determining the winner... The viper pulls hard up top but the ZR1 can rev to 6600rpms vs 6250 for the Viper. Given the performance of both cars, I'd put my money on a better driver - not a faster car.
Well these charts are very interesting.... and I'd have to agree Viper's top-end power is a force to be reckoned with.....I was merely giving all Viper loyalists, including myself, some bragging rights because all I have seen all over the internet is how much better the new ZR-1 is than a revamped 08+ Viper.... and while yes the ZR-1 may take it a 1/4 mile, the lead slowly starts to favor the Viper thereafter. GO VIPE!

11.2s@129 with 700rwhp was that with the trailer behind it?

Personally who give a rats ass about Car and Driver & Road and Track considering if they have driven the BMW M3 it would have been quicker.....Both stock ZR1 & 09 Viper have ran high 10s in the quarter so of course it would come down to the driver....

2 worthless opinions & who gives a rat ass is a classic I have not heard in awhile Johnny. By the way the 09 has a reflash on the computer & I have heard it is good for 10 more ponies. The car revs an additional 250rpms higher then the 08's 6000rpm limit.

Very good summary. They are rediculously close cars.
Defenitley a drivers race between the two cars in stock form. If someone one was going to play the $$$ game between the two, an 09 Viper with some bolt ons, exhaust and the tune from DC performance would be a hard car to beat especially once it's broken in and running well. You'd be looking at 620 or more rwhp with what I mentioned.
The cars are so close it's really up tp driver skill. You can make any car fast so IMO the Viper convertible is so beautiful and fun to drive with the top down I would take it anyday over the ZR1 and I also own a 08 ZO6. My 03 might be slow next to some cars but it draws a crowd everytime I take it out!
It would be interesting to see a dyno graph of HP vs. MPH. This would take into account the different gearing on both cars, and would show at specific equal speeds who is putting more power to the ground.
