I while back I posted about painting the '06 coupe for various reasons (chipped paint on fascia). I was originally going to just repaint the front end to factory specs, but then decided since I am a custom painter, I might as well paint the whole fucking thing. Nothing crazy like dolphins, flames or gay snake scales in stripes, but something that would be considered factory-looking but upon closer inspection Viper owners would know the difference.
I have decided to go with the infamous SSG with black diamond stripes that will run through the plate area and across the area that is not striped above the windshield. This has always bothered me. Mirrors will receive the same treatment of black diamond and the emblems will be removed for airbrushed emblems in black diamond as well. The stripes and emblems will be under the clear vs. over from Prefix (never liked the idea of feeling the tape edge).
In the picture is the stock hood and it will be replaced with an '08 hood along with Iforged wheels (black) in 19" and 20" respectively. Project will start soon and I will be taking progress pictures along the way. Project should take about a month as I have to work on other people's paint because for some reason it pays the bills.
Anyway, a before and after is shown. The only thing I am second-guessing is the black areas around the fog lights. My wife said it looked meaner with them being black, but I have been staring at it too long to even really see the difference. Opinions please.

Your buddy Karl here is going. We can't be no normal family with him living in the garage and comin' in the damn bedroom at 4:00 in the morning, carryin' hammers and shit.
Anyone ever PS a matte black vert. I'm really considering doing it to mine.
I think that it would be pretty sharp. I've always liked the style.
I thought about using matte black stripes but decided against it for three reasons. One, for me I would feel and edge due to the stripes being on the outside (Actually, one could paint and clear the stripes and then tape the stripes off and finish with basecoat and clearcoat. Kind of reverse-painting the stripe for less of an edge). And B , the matte black requires a little more maintenance. And three, I believe this paint style will be outdated pretty soon.
The only thing the same will be the SSG paint code. Stripes and execution will be different, along with emblem removal and replace with airbrushed ones. I hate having to detail around the emblems an my microfiber towel getting hung on them.
Joelcool, here are a couple of killer pics of the matte or satin finish:
The only thing that is bothering me about the repaint is the piece of rubber trim that separates the top from the windshield. Going to be tough as the top is the only thing I am not going to remove for this repaint.
If you're going to repaint the whole car why not have a windshield guy come out and remove the glass and reinstall it nice and clean when you're done? It would really only be a little extra and would ensure that overspray or tape lines wouldn't be a problem.

Thats just what I would do.
Doug, that is a good idea about the windshield.
The trim piece I am referring to is to the right of the hot chick. Keep focused. Do not look at the ass. We are referring to the crack on the car, no the girl.
This piece is what makes the convertible the coupe. The top is blue of course and the top of the windshield pillar is blue. It's the little bastard piece of rubber trim that separates the two. Going to be difficult to pull off.

Car? What car? All I see is a girl with a fuzzy background.
Oh well. The rubber strip will be tricky, try using some of the vinyl tape that painters use for taping off flames and other graphics. I bet you can apply it and wedge it down in between that gasket type material and then just carefully pull it out when you've completed the job.
I recommend using a very sharp razor-blade and some very steady hands... its definitely going to be tricky.

Beautiful...Love the blacked out fogs but I would SSG the mirrors as well. Very sharp other than that.
