Hi, new member who currently has a Cayman S Porsche. I am an average driver, no track experience, looking to get an 08' SRT. I am used to the Caymans easy handling, and modest horsepower. Just reading articles about the Vipers, one could get intimidated! I do not plan to street race, show off, or get out of control with the Viper. My question is, if I drive smart with respect to this vehicle, do I have to worry about spinning out of control or feeling unsafe driving this monster? I will be test driving today, but I dont believe a 10 min drive will answer my questions and concerns. I know many of you are real experienced drivers, so please try to think back to when you were an average driver. Am I getting in over my head? Thanks in advance for your unbias opinions
I'll be nice and say if you get one, go to track school or driving school etc. Totally difference machine from the Cayman, your going from a..well....Cayman, to a raw brutal street legal race car. Respect the snake, one little mistake or over-zealous throttle application at the wrong time and it will bite you in the ass. The problem with these cars is unexperienced get in them, get too comfortable without knowing theirs or the cars limits, and then wonder why they just smacked a tree or flew sideways over an intersection. There was a guy in my area whom never had a Viper, bought an SRT-10 and literally totaled it about a mile from the dealer.
The car is not hard to drive, its just you have to know your limits.
as stated above, respect the power and the easy loss of traction and anyone can handle it. You just have to take it slow and eventually you will feel just as comfortable in that as your cayman...
It's not nearly as bad as people say. Most of these accidents where someone lost control has to do with the driver not being qualified to drive a high horsepower RWD car.

Here's some information that may be worth considering. Always wear socks with your loafers. They will absorb sweat for those nervous moments when the exhaust barks abruptly at you at first start up. If you go with the vert, make sure your ascot has the heavy duty elastic in the perimeter. Note that your calf muscle in the left leg will develop disproportionately from that of your right due to heavy clutch use. Make a note to inform your tailor for the necessary adjustments. There will be girls who want to fuck you because of the car, many of whom will be clearly out of your league. The brakes are world class and are capable of launching your latte into the wind screen at the briefest moment of inattention. Note the penultimate factiod assumes you are into girls.

Just remember every time u go out that the car can kill you in the blink of an eye...but that is just the thing that makes the car enjoyable to drive..it keeps u on u're toes....imho the 08 even with more hp than the previous generation is a safer car as the differential and ps2tires are a step up ....The clutch is actually very light....given u're attitude up front you have made the right first step... just take baby steps... one more thing is the pedals are a little close together so avoid wearing yard boots or thick soled shoes at first
