2008 problem... WTF
drove the car about 3 miles. parked it had lunch came out and now the check engine light is on. Ran normal.
Have an appointment tuesday for exhaust change so guess they'll have something else to figure out aswell.... This blows...
Anyway of finding out what code is being thrown?

Most autozones will let you borrow the diagnostic device if you leave them your license.

autozones reader is a piece of shit. all i got over and over was link error... makes having to drive it 40 miles to the dealership tuesday a lil sketchy...

You should be able to cycle the key 2-3 times. Any codes should then flash on the info. display.

Buy an OBD II code reader and check it yourself , I use mine all the time on various friend's cars......

spoke withthe dealership, told me to check the gascap. took it off, cleaned the crud off the seal and blammo off went the engine light.
so whos got a link to a top knotch reader i can pick up?

Crud on the gas cap seal on a 2008? Then that 1996 B/W GTS with 1,600 miles must be really trashed by now and hardly worth considering.
Most common cause of check engine light = loose gas cap.

was just a light residue of black stuff. from the nozle that covers the pipe at the gas pump possibly. then again maybe it was just loose.. hell if i know. all i do know is theres no more engine light on..

get a scantool not a reader. a scan tool with tell you SO much more about what the car is doing.

Most people don't realize that you really are supposed to make sure your cap clicks a few times when tightening. Have taken vehicles in twice for that.
