"Dodge Challenger Wrecks Hard At Road America
Coming into turn 1 at the end of Road America's long straightaway, the Vanishing Point Challenger got loose, went into the infield grass, and then hit the tire-pile on the outside wall hard enough to fly up right on top of it. Driver Erich Heuschele was unhurt, but the damage, as you can see, was pretty catastrophic. The team says the Challenger is out of the race, which is terrible news. But astonishingly, we saw the car shortly after our own run leaving the track under its own power?and passing us! There was some speedy-dry in the car's panels when I photographed it on the wrecker, but it didn't seem to be dumping fluids. Maybe they'll be able to patch it up and run it without the front clip, NASCAR-style. What do you think: is this it for the Challenger, or will we see it again down the road? Take a good look at the carnage after the jump and decide for yourself."

Was something wrong with Davias Porsche or was he just plain and simple annhilated? 20 sec. Geez. I didnt expect that at all. I felt the ACR would win but not remotely by that much. It also raped the GTR with no grease as expected. Congrats.

davia said he had to turn the car off and on during the run due to an ignition issue. not sure how much time that cost him.
our driver told me that davias porsche had plenty of power on the straights. so its a fast car for sure. lets see how the cars match up over the next several days. then we will know how closely matched they are.
That's 20 sec over 3 laps? (2:30 is NASA TT midwest record) Nice job!

Comment from 2nd place overall Mongoose driver: "The Viper put on a clinic and dominated but after a poor showing in the skid pad is behind us." [Not for long, I would venture to say...]

So far so good on Day 2 at Mid America. Chris has never been to this track before, so he got there early and road his bicycle around the track before the event. After the first session this morning we calculated that we were about 6 seconds ahead of Davia's Porsche. We think that Danny Popp did better than the P-car too. So that would help us if it turns out to be true. I am optomistic we can finish well today and gain some points on the leader. Still a lot of point to make up from the skidpad. But I always liked cheering for the underdog anyway.
They are running the second session right now, so the results from today should be posted on the One Lap website later this afternoon or tonite.
Here is a pic of Chris and the Venom 650ACR before the event in the Tire Rack parking lot:
FYI, when the VCA autocrosses against the SRT engineers and loses every time, Chris is the guy with the fastest time of the day. He may have had a hard time on the wet skid pad, but he can get around a road course pretty quickly. And I think the other One Lap racers are realizing that now.
