Really annoying ticking noise coming from engine at idle and gets louder as engine warms up. On a 2004 SRT10. With 17k miles. Still have warranty until 2011. Took it into the dealership to get it looked at twice, charged me to look at it I can't remember how much but I got a simple "it's normal". The viper tech was outside while I was leaving the parking lot and it came out of his mouth that "somethings not normal". They replaced the drivers side manifold thinking that was causing it but yah that didn't work. I called Chrysler Dodge head office and reported this, they didn't really do much about it. Supposedly they called the dealership and asked them if they needed assistance they would send in another Viper tech to the same dealership the day my car would come. I'm not too sure if this is normal but I've been in other Vipers and they don't make this noise. Anyone that can help or heard anything thats solved this issue?
You aren't terribly far from Jon B at Partsrack. I am sure he can provide a recommendation. If you have engine issues spending a few bucks to travel isn't as bad as it not being handled properly.

You're in for a ride my friend. Ever since Dodge sold off its warranty department, that's right a 3rd party financial company now owns all of Dodge's warranty work - they will give you every run around to replacing an engine if there is a real problem. Don't worry they will not be short of "possible fixes" that will only mean you probably wont have your car the entire summer. At which point the problem still won't be adressed. I am of the school that a tech at a local dealer does not have the proper equipment to perform true engine work, no will the engine, once taken apart, ever be put back together to the tolerances that it was originally made from the factory in. When I had a problem with my viper engine they made me listen to the engine in the SRT truck as an example that the ticking noise was normal. Does your noise sound like a piece of metal in a fan and the sound increases the more you rev and is very loud holding it in rpm at like 4,000?

screw that! I've heard a loud ticking before and it was two pistons that I melted....
Hardeep- Sounds like Lifter noise. Very common, but depending on severity, not normal. The check-valves tend to plug or not operate properly causing a semi-collapsed lifter, or in the later models, the "rhodes" function is just a little too loose tolerance wise, and excessive bleed-down causes the same symptoms.
PS- you called us a while back, twice if I recall. I called you back twice and e-mailed you with no response, I am assuming you had taken care of whatever it was...?

When I had a 2006, the motor made a tcking sound. I was told the fuel injectors were very noisy and there was no problem. i drove the snot out of the car and never had a problem. FYI only.
If the lifters are in fact the problem, try draining the oil, and run Diesel engine oil in it until the noise goes away (but not driving it). Diesel oils (notably Shell Rotella T, and Delvac) has alot of detergents that will help clear the blockage. Just make sure to drain the oil and replace with clean spec oil.
I wouldn't think an injector issue would fluctuate based on heat cycling. I'd investigate lubrication related issues first and then a possible exhaust leak.
