I've got a new set of Unitrax 3:55s with shim kit for a Gen 3. I never got around to installing them. I'll sell them for $350 + shipping. I think they are $424 from Parts Rack if memory serves.
how much of a difference did you notice on blast off? and roll ons?
The best way I can describe it -- Now 2nd gear feels the way 1st used to stock.
And now 1st is f-u-n!!! As long as the temp and the blacktop is warm, 1st puts you in the seat pretty good! In the colder temps you need to be extra careful in 1st and 2nd. I see you live down south, so colder weather won't affect you as much as me.
I've only been to the track once since I got the 3.55's and pulled a 1.83 60' vs. 1.9x with the stock gears. I realize others can pull 1.8 60's with stock gears. This is just my experience so far.
I figure the 3.55's to be good for 2/10's +/- in the 1/4 mile.
IMO, Great Mod if you DON'T plan on forced induction, as traction is still somewhat decent w/ stock(ish) power levels.
I called my local Dodge dealer who services my car. He told me that if they replace the gears then it would void my warranty on the rear. My 2003 still has a power train warranty in effect. It even covered my waterpump that went south. With the reputation of the rears being soft to abuse, I have been hesitating having the work done. I have even contemplated buying a used differential and having the 3.55s put in it.

Yes, and no. The Viper differential was cribbed from the Grand Cherokee, Dana's troublesome Vari-Loc. It works okay in an AWD Jeep but it has a bad rep for violent tail snap in a Viper. Not to mention it will blow out the diff spider (not the ring and pinion) gears with dragstrip abuse.
The diff in a '03 and up is viewed as non-serviceable by Dodge, but Quaife builds differentials and the stock ring and pinion gears and the case have been shown 1600 hp without breaking. Your best bet to bulletproof the back end would be to have a Quaife installed with the 3.55's and maybe look to some Mark Williams halfshafts and driveshaft. No worries after that, and no need for a warranty, because it won't break.
Underground Racing is a vendor for the above mentioned parts. (704) 361 3443

If your doing a Paxton or already have a Paxton, the 3:33's work great. I ordered a exchange unit from Parts Rack. Quaife installed and 3:33 gears for $2900. I love it, alot better then the crappy unit on this car stock. Car pulls really nice in 3rd gear. I think 3"55's are a bit much on this car, unless your bone stock.
