Help Needed on what Rear-end part i broke at the drags today

So today was the 1st Test N' Tune of the year...headed up with my SRT-10 15k miles....mostly stock...no known problems...was in the high 11's untill the 3rd run when i did the best burnout and could feel the track was really grippy at the line...dumped the clutch at around 3k or so....and SNAPPPPPP!!!!

It felt like the right rear axel broke completely......but the car kept going. i completed the pass to a low 12......but something was definitely wrong.....it hardly launched and felt clunky in the rear end now. On the way home going around slow bends at the gas station.....it made 1 really loud snap again in the rear drivetrain but its not leaking oil or anything.....I did feel something slip on the interstate and alittle grinding noise this time.....but i know its not the clutch. My best feeling is its an axel slipping in the diff. housing.....but i'm sure i can be wrong.

Anyone have a similar problem happen to them clutch dropping at the drags....that could point me in the right direction in the rear drivetrain....i would appreciate it....and any advice on prices??? My biggest problem is i still haven't found a Viper tech in the Western PA area??? Suggestions??

true.....but that scares me more than just paying a Viper tech....plus my next mod was putting 3.33's in the diff anyway...i just don't trust any dealer in my area. I have already had a few issues with them ripping me off on parts i later bought on the web for a fraction of the price they wanted.....god knows what they will do with the car.

I'll take a free repair anyday. If want to know what they do with your car, stay there all day and watch. I just drop mine off and wait for them to call me back the next day but they only let the lead mechanic (Viper tech) drive them. Hell, if the Dealer wrecks it, you get top dollar...lol.

I'd bet you broke a pinion gear in the differential. If you're serious about the car, upgrade to a Quaife diff. They simply don't break, and they drive much better than the stocker.

Dodge considers the rear end to be serviced as a unit only, so the dealer will replace the whole thing if anything's wrong with it. But you're back to a weak stock differential.

Call Kevin at Underground Racing. (704) 361-3443 He's a dealer for Quaife, and can price one out for you, and a gear swap as well.

Well i was finally able to track down a "Real" tech after about 10 calls today....and pretty much said the same thing as what you just did.....he told me the SRT's are different from the GTS's.....and the spider gears were a bad move on chrysler's behalf......he's going to rebuild it with a torsion diff and a set of 3.33's......and also said if it i went back to stock it would do the same thing again....so the torsion is the only way for me to go. I just hope its not a noisy diff and always needs fluids changed....like my other car did. He quoted me labor, parts, and tax.....in the ballpark of 3-grand.....sound about right??
