I'm having issues with the head unit in the '04 SRT. It will not eject the disks in the 6 disk changer, nor will it play any of the disks in the changer. I pulled apart the console and besel last night, pulled the head unit and took it apart to see what was going on inside. Once totally dismantled I find the top two disks are stacked directly on top of eash other loosely sitting on the center spindle with the other two disks below sitting in bewteen these small thin metal spring-like disks and mounted firmly. I picked up the deck and shook it upside down to see if I could get the disks out and something was rattling around inside that sounded like loose change. Upon a closer look one of the small metal spring disks that separate the CDs was stuck in one of the corners of the deck under the laser reader that comes out to read the disks, and jamming the arm up (which would explain why it wouldn't play disks, and why the disks were stacked on top of each other). So I'm guessing the the spring disk falling out is the cause of all of the issues with the deck. I removed that spring disk and took a look at it and is was not damaged so I set it aside and finished removing the two disks from the spindle. The spring disks mount on the spindle which has a center rotating shafts with slots along the sides which allow the spring disks and CDs to move up and down the main spindle so you can load and unload.
SO.... after all of this describing I'll get to my point of the issue- Now that I have the jammed laser arm fixed and spring disk back on the spindle, my question is does anyone know what the spacing of the spring disks needs to be so that I can properly load all 6 disks. Has anyone had any experience with this or knows how to get this up and running again. I have everything re-assembled properly with all of the spring disks on the spindle and she's ready toto be put back into the car. My plan is to hook it back up to the juice and see if it will adjust the spring spacing automatically or what will happen? I really want to keep everything stock and don't want to buy an aftermarket deck, so if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions or experience with this issue (especially on spring disk spacing) it would be really appreaciated.
Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, most people here are not much on fixing things...they just buy new. You would be better off contacting the manufacturer of the head unit. The DCX RB-1 is made by Alpine.

I love it when things go bad on my Viper. I have an excuse to upgrade! I needed new tires last week but it doesn't make any sense to buy tires without wheels so I had to upgrade. I figured while the wheels were off I might as well save some labor costs and have them put on an adjustable sway bar (just to save some money of course). Damn, if im not going to need a brake job soon. Get a nav system but dont get a dodge product. Get something really trick and just to save some money add an amp and subs. Or, it sounds like you are a do it yourself kind of guy so why take the car apart twice to instal a radio and then subs and amps later. Better yet forget the radio, add headers high flow cats and a cat back so you dont care about the radio at all. Thats what I did
I guess another good question is with all of you guys upgrading your head units does anyone have one for sale that is in new condition? If so let me know what your thoughts are. I'd love to go out and spend on a new nav but I just ordered the Corsa Race package and I'm less worried about the sound the speakers make than what the engine sounds like, but I have two long roadtrips coming up this spring and I'm gonna need Pantera to guide me through the boring parts!

Even in the dealerships we just R&R the radios. If customer CD's are trapped inside them, the company we send the radios to will extract them and send them back to the dealer.
On a side note, I pulled $2.37 in change out of a Caravan radio... Kids!
Shit, if anyone is looking for an RB-1, I'll sell mine with antenna, and nav disk for $700 shipped. I'll even throw in an integrated (plugs in the back and hidden behind the dash) XM radio setup for it that I used for a while and then took out.
I spent all day today trying to get the deck working with still no luck... Even had it dismantled and pluged in to see if it was mechanical, but the deck won't even switch over to the source to play the CD, all it does is move between AM and FM. So it looks like its gonna be a purchase of a new deck. Whats the scoop with the RB-1? Kenny why do you want to get rid of yours? What kind of shap is it in? Pictures? Has everyone had a good experience with it? I was reading on here that you should get a cd changer for that deck so you down have to eject the NAV disk? Why? I'm looking at a quality alternative for sound without carving apart the car to achieve this, and if the RB-1 is a deck that people are happy with I'd consider tossing it into my car as well. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated... If I have to spend $400 to replace the current one I might as well double up and get one a bit better. Thanks guys!

I think mine maybe sold already. It's in perfect shape but my car is making the slow, inevitable march toward being a track car.
