I'm surprised that this thread http://www.viperalley.com/forum/vipe...er-cracks.html has been going on this long, and no one bothered to ask the guy that posted the videos. These were actually posted in the track forum, since that is where all the kill stories are supposed to go. The Z06 was tuned at LG Motorsports in Wylie, the same shop that actually installed the headers. You have questions about the car, ask me or Habib on this forum who owns the car in the video. You can see in the first two videos, how the Z06 driver drives. So in the first two videos, the driver is good, and the one where he loses, he sucks?
I chose to post the first two videos, even though they weren't good "clean" starts because Habib requested that I post them, and I thought it would be good for those watching to see how good a driver Habib is.
The owner of the Z06 acknowledged that the Viper is the stronger car, regardless of passenger weight. The 3rd race was the one where both cars stayed in it long enough to get a good idea of how the cars compare.
If you think your stock C6Z06 or lightly modded Z06 is capable of beating a 08, and you are in the Dallas area, I can arrange to get this caught on tape. Meanwhile, the two cars in question will be going at it again sometime this week, and the Z06 is having a cam added to it afterwards, and the two owners will go at it again to see what happens.
Stock for stock, without a doubt, the Viper is the faster car.

The 08 Viper is faster than the Z06, stock vs. stock. I have NEVER said otherwise, ever.
But, a 490 rwhp Z06 with a real tune (not the cheap man, mail-in tune) and bolt ons, WITHOUT a 230 lb passenger, and WITH an alert driver that takes off at the same time will NOT yield the same results in the previous vids.
A 490 rwhp Z06 and a 540 rwhp Viper will be an equal race, or very close to it, imo.
When this next race takes place, please make sure that either both are occupied with a passenger or both are not occupied with a passenger.
The Z06 is a badass car and was faster than the Viper for a short while, but the Viper is king again...no questions asked. The Blue Devil will probably edge ahead in a straight line, but 120k for a vette?

Fadi, just a correction, that LG Motorsports did the tune on the car, it is not a mail-in tune. It was tuned for that specific car at LG. The driver was alert and a good driver, but without anyone literally flagging the hit, that is the best both drivers could do. There were several poor hits that were called off, and if time and road conditions allow, the drivers will switch cars also, to try and get a better representation in the next set of races. With the passenger in the Viper, the Z06 was getting sideways in 2nd gear on a different road that night. The drivers will try their best to make sure that the passenger weights are "similar" but there isn't a large of pool of passengers to videotape
Rest assured, all attempts will be made to get a fair representation of a MODDED Z06 vs. a stock 08 Viper. The race that you saw in the other tape is a good representation of how a stock Z06 would hold up to a stock 08 Viper.

Gear ratio is huge in these situations.
Said since day 1, never understood the 3.07 Viper gearing.

The 3:07 gearing is for one thing and one thing only, highway mileage. It helps lessen the overall gas guzzler tax. Never a "fair" race with the Vette having 3:42's and weighing 200+ lbs less, but that's just another excuse, but let's gear the Viper with 3:55's and then see the 1/4 mile times change. Just another thought for the mix.

I know the Viper is faster than a Z06 stock vs. stock. Trust me, I accept that fact and admit to it. I just think without a passenger and even starts, it will be much closer. Don't you agree?
they say for every 100 lbs it's about a car. So if the Vet driver takes out 230 lbs, that equates to a make up over 2 cars (if that rule of thumb even applies), take out the hit and it can be within a car. But heck, that is all speculation and the outcomes might not even be any different when you race again. Just keep us posted.

But from a roll he ALWAYS won by 2 cars from 70-140 mph
Then we both added passangers of similar weight and did 3 roll races from the same 70-140 mph...
In these races..the Viper won by 2 cars...
Whats the point of this?????? The Z06 has around 450 rwhp and 430 rwt on average.. It's not an amazingly powerful car.....My Viper had 470 rwhp and 500 rwt...
The Z06 relies on it's light weight for it's speed....The Viper relies on it's tourque...
Add even 150 pounds to the Z06 and she slows down considerably..Add 150 pounds to the Viper and she moves like nonthing changed..
Who knew..tourque is good for somthing..
So the bolt on Z06 will do much better next time if they both dont have passangers ( about 1 car back)....But if the both have passangers then 3 cars back the vette shall be..
