I am looking at installing headers on my SRT. I currently have stainless exhaust with the cats removed, so it is loud as hell...the way I wanted it. Will adding headers change the sound and if so, how? (deeper, raspier, etc...)
Under normal driving I have found that combo to be too loud. I added 2 Burns mufflers in front of the stock mufflers and under 2500 rpm it is very quiet and livable. After that is sounds like the gates of hell have opened and there playing my song.

I guess I've always liked race vehicles as loud as they possible can be while still sounding clean and without a lot of backfire sounds. I hope that this set up will be satisfying because that is what I went with. I should be getting it back soon.
The M&M headers I added were mild steel and gave a nice deeper tone. I also have a Corsa and NO cats. Its very loud, but i like it. I dont think Vipers should be quiet. Maybe if it was a daily driver, id go a little quieter. Anywasy, go for it, you'll love it even more with headers.
Here's a clip I took of a friend's 2003 SRT with Paxton and full Belanger exhaust (headers, cats, exhaust). As you can hear from the sound clip, I really liked it:
