First Install of Belanger Headers/Exhaust on 08 Viper . . .

FYI, this was posted today by Mark Jorgensen of Woodhouse Dodge over on the VCA website:

"Well you have been waiting for the confirmed numbers and granted we use a Mustang dyno instead of the Dyno Jet, but we know our dyno is very accurate and calibrated to the same setup the factory uses . We base lined an new 08' yesterday at 481 RWHP = to 602 at the crank. Today with the full Belanger system and high flow cats we ran the car again and with just 31 miles on it and no "learning" miles for the computer, we gained... 50 RWHP at 6250rpm! thats 62 HP at the crank with just 38 miles on the car! Just think what they will produce when there is some break in miles run on her.

The gains were across the board with a 20ft/lbs gain starting at 2875rpm and peaking at 44 at 6200rpm! I will have Chris M. try and post some of the graphs for you tonight. If we can find a way to tune the PCM there will be even more potential since the A/F was still in the mid 10's from 4800rpm and up. We have no check engine lights either so that concern seem to be mute!

I would like to thank Mr. Schenk for his generous donation of his new "undelivered" 08' snake for our test. This system is sold as an off road only package only and even though it will pass emissions it is not a system that is CARB approved. FYI.

Thanks,"

Incredible increase from just a switch to headers. Then Belangers makes a top notch header second to no one.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop on new developments for our beloved Beast

Sorry I did not post this myself. I had a few request from the VCA and was tunnel visioned to them. The gains were very impressive considering the poor gains the 03-06 cars show with headers. This will be a very worth while upgrade for the 08's. The car was even stronger with a few miles on it but since the owner has yet to pick up or even see the car we are not going to drive it. The customer even though he had not driven it stock will be shocked at the amount of instant power that is available!

Thanks,

I have yet to install the Belangers with a Corsa but I would be willing to bet it will have "less" drone than the Magnaflow exhaust that comes from Belanger. What I don't know yet is if the Corsa will sound the same or have the same frequencies to deal with on the new motor that may dictate a change in the Corsa mufflers down the line for the new Vipers.

I will post my findings when I have another system on and running.

Sound clip?

This new engine is going to be insane n/a, full exhaust/headers/intake/tune/cam and head work is going make for a sick naturally aspirated monster.

My 05 gained 47hp with the Belanger headers, high flow cats, and magna flows. Just about exactly what Lou himself said it would gain. He thought 50hp and that's pretty damn close!

I don't have the pictures of the Belangers but they are similar to the others. These are the new 08' manifolds.

Lou Belanger and my Viper tech did not believe it was necessary to do so because the engine will "learn" the new headers and exhaust but I suppose it's possible that some extra hp could be had from a tune.

Here's a link to some pics of my set of 2008 headers before I packed them back in the box. (Still waiting impatiently for my 2008.)

Very true. We did not see as the charts above show a marked increase in A/F ratios after install but the PCM will adjust over a few hundred mile to make more power. There is no doubt though there is room left when the PCM becomes tunable on the 08's.

I spoke with Lou this morning and he told me these gains were on a fresh out of the box car that hadn't been broken in and with no "learning" time for the PCM to adjust to the increased airflow. I think other cars will definately show more gains especially with setups that have more extensive computer calibration and mods.

Here are some more pics of the headers (and exhaust) kit for you guys to check out:
