Not a flame, but did you guys see the new zr1 corvette 620 plus hp they are saying. I can't post urls but if you google motor trend zr1 you will find it, they have a new gray that is amazing.. Love the viper too though!
115 more horses 200lbs more. These HP wars are over the top. No one would have beleived back in the mid-early 80s {dark ages} this would be going on. Insurance?
BTW...the new Supercharger is a 2.3 Liter Eaton. I would expect it to top out around the same as the ROE's do when you pulley it....maybe a bit more as it has an intercooler (which is probably not enough for the fire its gonna blow when you turn it up).
So far, this is all turning out much better for the Viper than it is for the vette. The '08 Viper seems to be running at about 700hp with just an exhaust/header/cat delete setup, while the ZR1 is 200 pounds heavier than the Z06 and putting out 620hp, rather than the expected 650hp. In addition, the N/A setup on the Viper is far more desirable, in my opinion. All of this is looking good for the '06 and earlier Vipers as well, since neither of the newer cars is going to be easily turbocharged. On the other hand, with 700hp so easily attainable on the '08 Viper, most owners won't need a turbo to be satisfied.

I agree. I was expecting 650 HP at a minimum along with a 2900-3150 pound weight. Considering they both weigh the same and most Vipers are dynoing 620 crank, they look pretty even. The Vette even costs more...isn't that a kicker?!!
In addition, what '08 Viper owner is not going to invest in an exhaust/ header combo worth 70hp? The only hope the vette has at this point, is if the 620hp is grossly underrated. Otherwise, the Viper is looking like a much better choice. Hell, I think the current Z06 is a better choice, if the ZR1 comes in at 620hp and 200 lbs heavier. It's much easier to gain 100 hp than to lose 200 pounds.

I wouldn't even pay the obscene prices for the manifold-back systems. My local exhaust guy is fantastic and could probably make a very nice sounding, good performing stainless system (with high-flow cats) for 400-500 bucks. I wanna say Hennessey got somthing around 600 RWHP with the factory manifold, so that would put you at 650-670 crank for 400-500 bucks.
Agreed..At 3350 pounds and 620 HP as well as that supercharger being less reliable on a road course as well as loosing power due to heat after each drag pass...It is looking bad for the vette...
As well that thing is ugly and I wouldnt personally drive it...The hood is just killing me man...The mach1/ferrari thing looks good on a mach1 and the rear glass engine cover of the ferrari..
But on the vette it looks pretty sorry..
I much prefer the Z06 in every way at this point...That ZR1 for 100 PLUS K will look like crap sitting next to a 90K coupeViper....
Hope it's fast Chevy...Hope it's trapping 140's...Cas if it's in the 130's then watch out

the new vette is a beast the cobra wont touch it, the lamboes wont touch it and sure as hell the viper dont even come colse to being in the same catagory as the new vette. ooooooooo. and by the way the new viper out weights the new vette by 400 lbs. fact.and the new viper is one of the most uglyiest cars on the street. the rims are absolutely rediculos looking. the front end must stick out about 6foot. and the v-10. who needs it . chevy dont we only have a v-8. and we still make more power then the viper. waste of time if you ask me . so come on viper BRING IT ON BICTH.

Thanks Vetfreak, for making us vette owners look like a bunch if douches.
That's nice. I haven't seen that chart yet.
So the new Viper and ZR1 will be the same weight, one will have 2 more cylinders to the others S/C, but the Vette will win in the 1/4 due to its 3:43 gears to the Vipers 3:07's, as well as it's few extra ponys.

Probably true, But the ZR1 will be at least $50K more in price after huge dealer mark-ups.
The "only" 600 HP Viper is dynoing 545 rwhp consistently....
600 minus 15% drive train loss means the car only needs to dyno 510 rwhp to claim an honest 600 crank HP...
but it's hitting 545 rwhp
545 rwhp is every bit of 620 crank HP....
620 crank minus 15% = 527 rwhp SAE...
Again the viper is hitting 545 rwhp bone stock consistently....
640 crank minus 15% drive train loss = 544 rwhp
Dodge coule have EASILY rated the 2008 viper at 640 HP
So dont look at those crank numbers..the Vipers are hitting 545/515 SAE on dyno jets..When you have a rwhp grapgh to compare then lets do it..
Until then just take faith in the fact that the viper is out dynoing 2008 Z06's by 100 rwhp at this point
My quote over the graph actually was "GOT TORQUE" but i'm sure you will come back and say the vipers torque is underrated
One more thing, GM General manager has called out the Porsche 911 GT2, the Ferrari 599 GTB, and the Lambo LP640. Do YOU really think GM has not done it's homework before making a statement like this. More importantly did you notice the Viper was not even in his statement......
