WTF. convertible latch $2500????

umm ... ok so I have a 2005 convertible and the damn handle in the middle of the top that you latch down to seal the top closed broke. no big deal right? It's the size of a door handle latch. Its the latch that you close to seal the top when the top is up ..... that shit is $2500??? I was at dodge today and the guy had been in parts for 10 years. He said "that's the price" .... plain and simple. I was definitely the right part/part no. ect ect .... All the parts having to do with the top are STUUPID expensive. I checked the price on the rear little rubber seal for the top too ... $600!!! for a tiny little rubber strand. WTF!!!!!

Where do I get a latch from?? and where do I get one and not spend that ridiculous amount of $$$$ ..?

I will call him tomorrow. But I saw that in the computer, the DEALER NET (which is the dealer cost) on the part was $1600. So, yeah, that's a huge markup, but even $1600 for a little handle latch????? WTF

LOL, I was thinking the same thing. Even if the car had a TT or Paxton on it, the warranty would still be in effect for the handle.

Follow up with X2 Builders - wrecked dodge vipers for sale. They sell used parts and should have it at a reasonable price. I just bought some interior parts cheap.

Since Vipers seem to start delivery very late in the model year, it is highly likely that your bumper to bumper warranty is still in effect. Call your dealer(or Tators) with your VIN and find out when the in service date was.

You can also call Jon at Partsrack.

definitely got a mixed bunch in here ...... love it

anyways, there is no warranty remaining. I checked with chuck. He's a very nice guy and he gave me some phone numbers to call. I found a guy with used parts and he said he could sell me one for $800. HAHA. so I guess that's much better then $2500, but it just seems so ridiculous for a little handle to be $800 even. I priced the rear handle that unlocks the top when its down to go back up, and it was like $60 from the dealer bran new ... but the latch in the front is $2500. wtf

hey ....... why doesn't someone on here that has an SRT convertible that IS still covered under warrenty help a brother out. I'll send you my latch and you intall it in your top, and then take it in to get it replaced under warranty. then send me one back. worth a few bucks. it only takes a few minutes to take off. its actually real simple

Drop me a line tomorrow... I will make some calls on this. Its worth my time alone in costing Dodge a (ludicris) sale... I dont know how they justify themselves sometimes. So, that handle takes more effort to make then a fender? An intake manifold? a CRANKSHAFT? They just like to bone people on rarely broken items.

YES, dodge definitely is out of control on this one. I would REALLY appreciate it if someone could swap this out and get it warrentied. That would be really helpful.

Spoke with XVipers on another matter this morning. I mentioned this post about the latch. Mike has several and will take $150. Great guy to deal with.

Call him directly at 866-984-7377.

XVIPERS INC

I highly recommend xvipers to anyone looking for parts, particularly SRTs. They are parting out 20 or so cars at a time. He has 6 Mambas, 3 VOI9 cars and several Copperheads.
