Learning to drag my 2003 SRT10

Well like any one who gets a new car i wanted to see what she could do...

The problem is that the one and only drag strip on my island closed down 2 years ago..

Wow it was open i used my Circuit city bell tronics timer numerous times at the actual drag strip and compared it's results to my actual time slips..

I found the unit to be Extremely accurate to within a tenth and mph...

I went to the same "spot" were my.....

Mild H/C auto 2.73 geared C5 ran a best of 12.6 at 112 mph out of 100 runs

1999 bolt on tuned rt10 ran a best of 12.2 at 121.7 mph out of 75 runs

1998 Supercharged v6 camaro ran a best of 14.9 at 93 mph out of 150 runs

Heres how my rookie as drove my new 2003 SRT10

24 Aug

1-12.7 @ 114
2-12.4 @ 115
3-12.4 @ 116
4-12.5 @ 115.6
5-12.4 @ 115

Man this car SUCKS I thought...Littel did I no that I was shifting when that damn yellow arrow appeared and really to early at 5500 rpm's or so

Tried shifting a lil later

6-12.4 @ 117.9

And then a lil later

7-12.37 @ 119.0
8-12.25 @ 119.3

And then on my 9th and final run shifting right before red line I clicked off a

9-12.08 @ 118.9 1.93 60 ft 7.9 @ 91.3 1/8
0-60 mph in 4.13

Very happy with the ET but dissapointed in the 119 max trapps I called it a night

25 AUG

I baby shifted on these runs trying to see if I could hit 120 mph trapps

10-12.77 @ 115.6
11- 12.75 @ 118.1
12-12.43 @ 120.2

YEA BABY a 120 trapp..Not to shabby and I called it a night

1 SEP

Tonight I wanted an 11 second pass and was all buisness

13- 12.5 at 115.9 getting warmed up
14- 12.4 @ 117.8
15-12.26 @ 119.2
16- 12.1 @ 120.5
17- 11.97 @ 121.3 60 ft 1.97 7.9 @ 93.5 1/8 0-60=4.05 !!!!!!!!! HELL YEA
18-12.1 @ 120.2
19-12.1 @ 120.1
20- 12.05 @ 122.2 ( highest mph yet)!!!!!!!!!!

21- 12.08 @ 121.4

Then I called it a night...

The car had a 1/2 tank of gas on the 11.97 run...I feel confident that with another 10-15 passes and a 1/4 tank of gas that a 11.8 at 123 mph will be obtained....

BTW...Who ever thanks a 2003-2006 SRT10 can hit 60 mph in first gear is WRONG...I tried many times and the car will hit the limiter at around 59 mph....

As well hitting 0-60 mph in 3.8 or 3.9 in an SRT10 like some mags repoted is nearly impossible on a normal non prepped driving surface...

The car has to be shifted to second gear...And the 60 ft MUST be a very low 1.9 or high 1.8...As well very little gas for weight savings wouldnt hurt...

Not saying it cant be done cas on a prepped surface at the drag strip it wouldnt be a big deal hitting a low 1.9 or high 1.8 60 ft on your way to a quick shift and 0-60 in 3.8-3.9...

But in real driving comditions unless your name is Evan Smith forget about it and say hello to 4.0's

Hey I appreciate it but until I ferry the car to another island that has a drag strip and actually run the numbers on a time slip I have no advice to give..

I was just amazed out how much of a differance practice made...

At a real drag srtip you often wont get to go more than 3-4 times...

Well I would have been one of those viper owners who makes everyone think Vipers are slow..Because Im pretty sure that I would have ran 12.4-12.7 at 114-116 mph just like I did on my first 5 or so runs with my Bell tronics timer...

Couldnt you just see it????

Me hitting 114-116 mph trapps in my SRT and some guy in a 2002 C5Z06 who has mastered his car running 12.4-12.5 at 114-116, and all the Chvy guys at the strip saying how my car is overrated...

HAPPY I PRACTICED...As me and some friends plan on taking a ferry to another island within a month or two to go to the drag strip....

Im gonna go out again next week and log another 10 runs...As Ive been told by ranger that it takes atleaste 30 runs to dial in a vehicles true performance

Lol, 59 mph in first is like 99 percent of 60, ain't it? (Leave 1st around 55, 2nd around 88, and 3rd around 115 for best results) Depending how long and hard you try, you can hope for 11.7's. Great work so far!

Every tenth you drop on your 60ft is 2 tenths gained at the end of the 1/4 mile. My best at our track (un-preped and street tires) was a 11.45 at 128 with a 1.81 60ft. When I get back I want to try out your device.... I feel a clutch change within the next year on your SRT-10....haha

Yes but the rev limiter kicks in at 59 mph..Thus killing your 0-60 run..

HOWEVER..I do beleave that adding a lil air to the tires you could possibly increase the gear/tire ratio and hit the limiter at 60-61 mph like some have claimed and get a killer 0-60 time..But then again the more air pressure the harder the launch will be..So like I said..If your on an unprepped surface say hello to 4.0's..

NEON GTSR...Sorry man. I stated earlier that until I get an actual time slip running 11's I dont feel that I am qualified to give you advice...I feel like an 11 time slip at the prepped sea evel track Ill be running at wont be a problem. But still untill then Im not qualified in my eyes to give you any advice..

But I will adfmit that every tecnique Ive been trying with this car I learned from Ranger..The C6Z06 and SRT10 have similar tires widths ( 13 inch for the Viper and 12 inch for the Z06) as well they both get around 60 in first gear and both end up in the 120's..

The Viper has more TQE but the Z06 has more gearing. In short I found his write ups for dragging the C6Z06 very helpfull in laerning how to drag my SRT10..

If only we had a Viper owner of an SRT10 with this guys passion the 11.7's at 123 would have been eclipsed back in 2003..

HowFast..No problem man and I cant wait to see you

The 0-60 time isn't worth worrying about in itself if you're more interested in 1/4 mile times. Especially if the car won't reach 60 in 1st gear.

The Z06 engine has a higher redline than the Viper, and it can handle a stiffer axle ratio.

So comparing the two and trying to imitate the Z's abilities inch by inch will only take your mind off of what you need to do with what you have to work with...

I'd say just concentrate on your car, and realize each level of mods has its' limitations.

Good luck!

I agree with you and I wasnt mimicking him as I know there are some differances...

But it's the littlet hings..Like walking into first gear or not powershifting second gear..Then power shifting third and fourth..

Sounds pretty simple but the guy really goes into great detail about these things...

I still havent mastered this car..

As I continuosly power shift second and get a lil spin as well as lift on 3 and 4...

Eliminating the accidental powershift on second gear is probally worth another tenth..

As well as not lifting on 3 anf 4 another tenth...

Then I havent even let out any tire pressure yet..Or did better than a 1.93 60 ft..

The point is that when your trying to maximize a cars potenial every little deatail adds up....

It just kills me that people havent beaten 11.7 in the SRT10's...

These cars are trapping 118-122 mph on average..

Even a low trapp of 118 mph should be good for an 11.9 if you hit 1.8 60's..

If your in decent conditions and trapping 120-122 dead stock then an 1.8 60 ft should net you 11.7 no problem..

If your in GREAT conditions with a below sea level DA you should be trapping 121-123 mph and a 1.8 60 ft should be a 11.6 no sweat...

I know theres only 6000 SRT10's in the world and out of those 6000 probally only 1000 ever went to the strip...

But come on!!!!!!!If a few mags can hit 11.7 there first time driving the car then an actual owner should have no problems with practice and good conditions...

I know Im ranting hear..But for Gods sake the C5Z06 has a stock one hitting 11.7 and a few in the 11.8-11.9 range.. THOSE CARS MAX OUT AT 114-117 MPH TRAPPS

The gen2's are maxing out at 117-120 mph trapps and they have an 11.6 under here belt as well as numerous 11.7-11.9's..

How in the hell is a 120-123 max trapping car stuck in the 11.7 range??? Is anyone dragging stock SRT10's????

123 mph as we all no is good for mid 11's with a solid 1.8 60 ft...

Like I said.. I just really wish we had someone with that guys bone stock passion..
